Class A question

Is farm class A license different from the commercial class A anymore? The driving portion used to be way different (none of the maneuvers, at least here) but I am sure a lot has changed since I did all of that.

No such thing in Tennessee as a farming CDL. You can exempt the medical requirement for a CDL if you declare you are farming and stay within 150 miles of home.

That's what I am wondering. It would make sense to do away with it and put the exemption in the medical card. When I renewed mine I had to state whether it was non-commercial/farm to renew.

In Missouri farmers don't need a class A if in 150 miles of farm. But if you get a class A they are all the same. I did find out you can take the driving and pretrip with a air brake truck and a electric brake trailer as long as the GVW is over 26001 lbs. and have your air brake for class A. A day cab and a gooseneck trailer will maneuver better than a 53 foot van trailer.

You are in Kansas. By Farm Class A I'm assuming you mean for local, non-interstate driving. In that case you need to get your states specific requirements from your DMV or State Police or Farm Bureau or someone in Kansas, familiar with Kansas rules and regs. If you mean interstate, then you have to abide by the FMSCR rules for Interstate operation.

Asking a guy in NY or Fla or New Mexico what Kansas rules are is not going to get you the right answer.
