The Robins didn't get the memo!

Phil, the ground hog said SIX MORE WEEKS of WINTER.

The Robins did not get the memo. Sunday there were thousands of them in a field by the house.
Today we recieved 3.5 inches of snow, Wednesday we are supposed to get 5 to 8 inches and this weekend we are supposed to get several more inches. Today I did not see any Robins. Must of headed south again.

They follow the 36 degree soil temperature. You must not have 5 feet of frost like we have. The ground is hard as a rock.

They never left here, I see lots of them daily, they have been eating staghorn sumac seeds, and small dried up crab apples off the trees, cherry size ones, that never fell. They are something, usually eat live things, but adapt. I've always enjoyed them, for some reason, have raised many for release over the years, orphaned ones, they sure don't forget, and at least are native and don't bother much, like starlings or similar.

Phil said six more weeks of winter, but Quarryville Sam, or whutever his name is, didn't see his shadow, and says six weeks until spring. Wonder which is right???

Funny you should mention the robins. I saw two of them myself last week and commented that they must be lost since we were in the middle of a cold spell with temps into the low teens at night.

I'll see an occasional robin, but we have 5 bluebirds who I see at least once a month. Tough birds. Always wonder where in sam hill they spend the bitter nights.

Michigan's state bird. They're usually our "first sign" of spring.
I haven't seen one lately. Lots of Blue Jays at the bird feeder though.

We had a flock of Robins here on Monday. I also saw a Pileated woodpecker at my neighbor's. Hal
