Value on used bins?

We just purchased additional acreage in Western Illinois with these intact bins. I do not believe they have been used for sometime. Is there any worth in trying to sell or am I better off scrapping? How would you even go about putting a value on these? I know the larger Superior is 32 in diam, 8 rings high, the smaller Superior is 27 in diam and 7 rings high. Not sure on the two smaller bins. Do have pics if anyone would like to see what I've got.

Thanks!
Mitch

Folks do buy them. I was looking at maybe putting a 5K bushel bin on my place and I was looking at used. Found a pretty nice one late in 2013 but it was coming on winter and a lot of days were windy. The thought of trying to take that down and get it loaded with bin jacks etc in the cold and wind...well, I figure to find one this year when the weather is nicer. Check out local auctions, particularly consignments...you will see what they bring in your area.

They do not have much value to move, because the cost of concrete approaches the cost of steel on the bins. It is more economical to build bigger bins.

I bet you can rent them out.

You could probably sell them for about scrap price but that is about it. Ones that large will have to be completly disassembled even to move only a short distance. Its a lot of work plus concrete and new bin bolts for the buyer.

If they have much rust on them then you may as well scrap them.

Renting could be a good option unless you want them out of your way.

The big one's gotta be a 30,000 bu bin. The smaller one must be around 25,000. You got quite a bit of storage there. Do they have floors and fans? Do they have a stirrator? There a leg there?

I sure wouldn't crush them. Call up a local bin seller and ask them. They might be interested in buying them, or they'll give you a ballpark on what they're worth. Once you get a price, list them on CL for that price. I wouldn't do a "make offer" ad. The Meth head scrapper'll be calling in droves.

I have a westeel 1750 bushel bin i been trying to sell for 4 years.
I only want a grand,..no takers yet.

figure out what you want to get out of them and shoot me an email. i have a neighbor looking for some used bins. i can put you in touch with him and maybe you can strike a deal. he is near dwight illinois. my email is open just click on send email thanks

You can rent them do about 10 cents a bu a year, plus
electricity.

You can sell them for about the same or maybe double that if
they are nice, and be rid of them.

If they are really nice, or big, or already taken down carefully,
or if they have heaters or full floor or unloading equip, then you
can get more than that.

The trouble is the metal is about the cheapest part of a new
bin, and the labor to take down and apart is a lot, then put
back up.... The small ones became too small to mess with as
farms got bigger, and the big ones are a lot of work to take
down, buy new bolts, and put back up.

I just saw an article, on someone, hippie or
"Back to the earth" type living in one. They
sprayed 4, or 6 inch"s of foam on the inside, for
insulation. Put in a false ceiling, and about
18 inch"s of insulation above that, cut in a few
windows, and put in partitions. Cheap lodgeing !

Are they functional? Electricity to them? Augers work?

I would think you would want to use them.

If nothing else put bigger doors in them and store your collectables in, like old tractor part!!!!

I can see why you have not sold it. The small bins like that are just not worth taking down and putting back up. Around here they just take an excavator hit it a time or two and load it for scrap, His large bins should be very saleable.

Not that is a big deal but it may be if go to advertise the bins.

There is no 32 foot bin made. It is either 30 or 33 foot. Bins diameters are made in 3 foot intervals.

It could be oblonged. Measure it 90 degrees from your last measurement to see if it 34 there.

I've seen some 30ft bins with dryers sell in the 5000 range at sales. The local ASC office had two they got back when the farmer didn't pay his government loan off. They were 2 year old 10000 bushel with fans. They sold at a sealed bid auction for 8500 each.

Illinois Agri News has an ad in the bins and dryers section, some outfit will buy used bins. Look around, there is a market for used bins. Chris

Saw several bins sell at an auction in NE IL 7 or 8 years ago. Small bins sold cheap but the bigger ones brought some decent money.
