Reminds me of the fellow that got a thermos bottle for his birthday. He asked what it was for. Somebody told him it was to keep hot things hot or cold things cold. The next day he took it it work, and carried cold tea and hot soup in it.

The original thermos bottle contained a double-walled glass bottle with a vacuum inside it and was properly called a "Dewar Flask". Back in 1970 I worked with the brother of the gentleman that invented the Dewar Flask.

AND, one had to be very careful when washing them, if you broke that little glass tip off the bottom, it released the vacuum and no longer served its purpose.

He was, I'd have to guess late 80's or early 90's. He'd only come in for a few hours maybe once or twice a week, part of "upper management".
