Help! my son ad I are trying to replace a camshaft drve gear that is
missing a tooth. We are follwing the Deere and IT service manuals
and have hit a "road block" trying to remove the left bearing cone.
Both repair manuals are calling for a special puller. The Deere
manual spells it out as a "O.T.C. puller from John Deere governor
set John Deere 622 collets". Does this still exist? is there a reliable
alternative?

Thanks,
Dan

When at the task. This is the time to remove the cam and followers. After 60 yrs you can be assured there is wear. Eyeballing the cam doesn't indicate lost lift and duration either.
A re-grind is low cost and one of the most important overhaul items to consider.

I doubt if you will have any luck finding that. I use a three jaw small gear puller. Assuming you have the cam out of the tractor?

I usually just tear the cage off of it and grind the inter race until it is thin. I then take a chisel and put it right at the back of the bearing. They will usually start to slide off then.
