valve problem??

The intake valve (right side in pictures) caused the intake push rod to "collapse" and also looks like that valve stem is "riveted" some which I suspect is not normal. I"m strongly suspecting that the intake valve stuck to cause this.

The engine was running just fine and suddenly stopped as if the ignition had been shut off. It powers a portable electric generator.

Do you fellows think my suspicion is correct??

Does the valve move or is it stuck? If moves freely I have seen a pushrod bend causing the mushrooming of valve tip as your pic shows. Either way rod valve and most likeky rocker arm need replacing.

Thanks, I haven't checked if the valve is stuck. That will be my next step.

Hoping parts I need are available.

Oscar Wilson Engines and Parts (St Louis area) is where Generac said to get parts.

too much valve lash causes that. have saw that happen many, many times on engines in chev"s and fords also. and tractor engines. the valve stem end may not have been hardened properly could be a culprit also.as in old fords with none adjustable valve lash some times the valve stem had to be ground to spec. had to be careful not to remove too much meat.
just think, same thing as using a cold chisel and ball peen hammer... the chisel end gets mushroomed.

I don't think it stuck. It takes a lot of time to hammer the end of an intake valve to look like yours. I think the intake valve clearance became so big, perhaps the push rod came off the rocker arm. I would look for scratches on push rod to confirm.

The weird thing I see is most OHV have a locking nut on adjustment. All I see is an allen head. Where is the locking nut?

It would be interesting to find out what the cause is. Post back.

How many hours did you have on engine?

I expect you are totally right, because it said in my engine manual that valve lash was to be adjusted every 50 hours. You can guess how much I've followed that requirement!!

There is a locking nut about a 1/2 inch below each rocker arm.

I have about 75 to 80 hours on the engine. But as I mentioned elsewhere, the valve lash is to be adjusted every 50 hours and I missed doing that so I'm the engine's worst enemy and it's making me PAY!!

Old brains just can't remember to do this maintenance stuff!!
