Your Handle

I was wondering how you came about you handle on yt forums? I dident put alot of effort in mine, my name is Jason and I live in eastern NY so I came up JayinNY, I see other posters have the same kind of handle. There are also those who have ones that don't give there name or location, but are pretty good, a few examples, no offense guys, nytobadlybent, showcrop, ny986, 60acrehillside,and a bunch more. So when I see names it always makes me wonder about the person, how they came up with it ect, so how did you pick ur handle? I hope this dosent offend anyone, I just thought it was interesting.

I was on the Oliver forum and wanted to respond to a post and didn't have the good sense to wear a better disguise.

Someone was looking at a tractor of mine that had just been spiffed up some. I told him that it was a row crop model, he said no that's a showcrop tractor. I thought it sounded good, so I stole it from my 971.

Was lurking on Oliver forum for few months then tried posting as Shep. There was another Shep on there so we agreed to ShepFL for me and ShepVA for him.

it was my first assigned email ID from 40 years ago
so use it for all my forums also---easy to remember just one handle

On any given day , I would guess 90% of the folks on here are in the USA , and rightly so ,are darn proud of it too. Well , I am not shy about telling others where I am from , and just as proud of my home too . So there you go, it is that simple. Bruce from Can.

Well not being too smart I didn't register on here, my first handle got lost, then the next two got lost when I had a lightening attack, those were tractors so I settled on my state and a number, now I can just add when lighting hits.

I'm glad that's your handle Bruce, I have no problem with Canada. Other than Alaska, Canada would be my second place to move to. Lol

When I started wrenching on cars I went through lots of old aircooled VWs. I still have four of them, but I'm not just wrenching on air anymore. Notjustair seemed easier than typing everything on this farm that takes my time. I still have a soft spot for the little Kraut Wagons.

I've got my Grandaddy's 9N, serial #3667, that he bought on December 22nd,1939! Cost $630, according to handwritten records on a legal pad I still have.

Seen JD Seller make several posts before I became a member, so since my initials are JD and I farm with John Deere tractors, well just seemed like the way to go.

Prior to joining YT I had referred to myself as being kornfused for many years. My handle displays the fact that I don't take myself too seriously and enjoy funning around.

When I was still in the Service my Cb call sign was Missouri Peapicker , So when I moved to Az I just changed the State .
Probably not smart enough to come up with something else .

John in AZ,
Also kinda hard to pick without stepping on some else.

when living in west fellow changed his official name to Mikel 2 Bears. Just after having one of 2 parts on my body removed friends renamed me Bill One Ball.

The first time I saw your name, I thought it said a$$ peapicker, than I realized what it really was. Lol

No surprise on mine, every time I try to get creative it turns silly. lol so I stuck to name and state.

i already put this above but theres more to the story. short version a lady named sheri called me one christmas and wished me and the mutt a merry christmas well it was nice of her but it wasnt this larry i hope somebodys wife didnt get that message and to make it worse she called back to explain .so ever since i have been either larry and the mutt or farmerwithmutt. i get mail that way to. sheri and her family is a remarkable story 4 generations in one house however in less then 5 years the youngest by then 17 had buried all the older members sad and tragic the name is a reminder to me of that family

I run these doing custom combining and really am Nutty about these machines as well as CASE in general, I do have a fair amount of CASE in my collection as well

Live in North West Pa., Where they use a lot of salt, And any thing made out of steal or iron will rust up if it sits outside even if no salt is on it. One day when I 1st got to hanging round here, I had to heat 16 "rusted nuts" on a old truck axle to get two wheels off. Thought to Myself, Hey that would make a good handle! Sooo, ain't what youings thought!

I have a few trucks with 8v92 detriot's real name is james where about in eastern ny are you jay? have some relitives and many friends over there.

(quoted from post at 21:44:26 02/01/14) guess

jml755, my initials and I bought a Ford 755 backhoe as my first "tractor" which led me to this forum.

Live in a Dutch community , { all my life } so it came pretty easy ... and YES I'm Dutch ...

........ mark

My house is called a Dutch colonial! Not sure exactly why! Lol, maybe it's the barn type roof???

Mine is easy: I sold JD equipment for many years. It has nothing to do with my name.

I did copy it. One of my Co-workers at the last dealership used it first as his name on his hotmail email and JD network. He quit the business about 10 years ago and I took the handle over.

That is why my email (jd_seller) has the under score in it. His (jdseller) is just the name.

I figured you must of sold JD equipment! Nice to know as I'm
sure you have a good knowledge of JD equipment, ect. Only JD equipment I have is a JD, 1969 112 lawn tractor, and a JD 346 small square baler. I won't hesitate to say I think John Deere does make the best small square baler! I know some wont like that comment! Lol

My first and last name starts with an R.
I guess it started years ago as my CB handle.
Its the legal name of my farm. Its on my farm coats and hats. Its on my front license plate of my truck. Allot of my equipment and trailers are identified as such.
I used it on here long before I registered it here. Seems like at least ten years ago. I have been thinking of changing it somehow to identify myself as being from Mi.though.

Mine come about form a few things. #1 where I learned what I know and most of the old people I learned from are 6 foot under. That and from a pony we had that was called old coal.. When I first found Y-T I had another handle but from the get go I got attacked so I dropped it for what I have now used for over a decade

Thanks for the clarification old, I wrongly thought you used that name because you were old? So that's why I asked, it'd be wrong of me to make assumptions? Lol, no offense bud.

I could tell you stories but lets just say the first job I ever had was when I was 10 or so. O worked at a shop for an old man and did the clean up sweep up stuff for soda pop and candy bars and ice cream bars. Learned how to weld a gas tank that way and many other things. Learned at a young age to keep my eyes open and ears open and mouth shut and only ope my mouth if I had a real question. The guy who taught me most about welding dies at the age of 95 or so and was a good friend to the point he gave me a gun with the serial number of FS0002. Appraised at $10K

I own a trucking company and was a truck mechanic . Started hauling stone for a local farmer and became friends . Then I was fixing his trucks and tractors and he said I was a Super Trucker as I could do it all. When I got my last truck I used his barn to have it lettered and I had to leave for my boy and came back to Super Trucker painted on the back . So that made it official. Aaron from SE MI.

I have a soft spot or the beetles myself. Been several years since I owned one. About five years ago I tuned one up for a friend and felt claustrophobic driving it.

Ohio is the Buckeye state and I have a BS degree in Animal Science from The Ohio State University. Forever and always a Buckeye!

Mine is my first name and the first tractor I ever drove. It was also my grandfathers name who's tractor it was that I first drove. My family has a habit or tradition of naming the first born after the dad or mothers father. BTW I'm live in the Puget Sound and my farm is 15 miles by road north of Spokane WA.

Leonard

Love CASE tractors , kind of nutty about them. But Tom already had that one . So since i'm nuts about CASE and just added the 1.

I was ny bill when I signed up here a long time ago. a few years later, the site wouldn't recognize me, even after trying to reregister, so I changed it to formerly ny bill. I haven't moved in the last 34 years, actually lived in NY my entire life.

I use my real name. I figure you better not be on here talking sh*$ , or giving repair advice if you dont know what you are talking about. I feel a handle gives to many guys a sheild from accountabilaty.

Never was able to build a decent shop on this place, but had a large oak tree that I worked under, complete with homemade work bench. So I was truly a "shade tree mechanic". I am also retired, so the handle, "ShadetreeRet. I actually used it on another site. They already had a Shadetree,so I just added the Ret.

same here ,,, kinda hate typin ,, so I take liberties with shortenin words and I have a bad gg on my keyboard , last name is missing 2 letters which are E and T ,,, no G in the last name,, given 1st name is james

After I retired I started collecting old hammers. I have over 460 in my shop. I named my shop the :Hammer House. That is where I got mine.
Sign my name as ,

Hammer Man

I have an IH 986 tractor among others that I thought would make for an easy to remember and unique handle. The wife is protective of our location and therefore I give general information as to where we are versus an exact address. I will alternately but accurately state we are around 45 miles SE of Rochester, NY in the Western Finger Lakes and are in some but certainly not all descriptions of Western NY. Most of my friends and nearby family are from the Rochester and Buffalo areas so I readily identify with the Western NY region.
No offense as to the inquiry. It just seemed prudent not to give out too much info at first when you are new to a board.

Most people know me as Pete and there were so many pete's on here that I just added last couple digits from Army serial number. The nick name worked really well over the years as after hour callers were always looking for a Pete in the phone book but none listed. Jim actually.

when i joined years ago i just used my name, at that time it was about the only thing my ex hadnt run off with lol

That's fine NY986, I figured you had an IH986, and put 2+2 together, lol, you certinaly do not have to disclose your location,, but I thought you handle was unique.

We started out to open a Winery, but our county had a tax reassignment that upped our taxes 600%.There were five farm winners in our county at that time. There are now none. Now I have wine grapes for sale and 500 currant bushes for jelly and great wine. Additionally, I grow 15 Ac of veggies for farm mkt. I have been known to give a glass of wine to people who stop at our farm Mkt. So I"m the wine farmer.

Well i'll bet ya could never guess. I had a tractor and equipment repair business along with buying and selling . And yes i did make house- farm calls . specialized in I H tractors , but i would work on either shade of green only under the cover of darkness . BUT i will never admit to it .

Hi Jay,
I was given my nick name Kow Farmer at my job by my former boss. I raise beef cattle and Kurt is my first name. So I started signing everything at my job as Kow Farmer. I like to spell Kow with a K. LOL
Kow Farmer Kurt

Didn't put a lot of thought into mine, just my name, Steve, and Advance is the name of the machine shop where I work. Live in north Texas.

Not hard to figure out. I am pretty old and called clint. I mite be one of the older persons on here. I sure do enjoy this site. clint

One of the first Internet forums I joined was Team Chevelle. I've lived all my life in Arkansas (Ark), and I have a 1968 Chevelle SS396 (68SS). Came to this forum when my father-in-law gave me his Ferguson tractor.
I try to keep things simple and use the same handle on all the forums. Wish I could use the same password for everything too, I have to keep a printed list by the computer to keep up. :?
My name is Bill, and I always sign my posts
BillL

I remember Steve, you post nice pics of you area and red tractors, I like blue tractors and red ones;) lol, I wasent sure about delta, though. Now I know, what's the famous or popular ski place ?? Is it Denver or aspen? Or maybe neither, I don't know, I never leave NY, lol

Really didnt think to hard I live in Missouri and the first tractor I bought was a Case 1030 western special. The serial tag reads 1032 so used that, just put the D on for diesel and was already some 1030 handles on Case forum. Scott

Mine was an old email address. Originally came from my last name and the fact that I am 6 foot 9, but Samuels69 had some inappropriate connotations that could be miscontrued by simply reading the name...so 68 it is!

My handle is a bit tongue-in-cheek.

Before the days when a threshing machine had a stack blower, it took a crew of men to pitch the straw away from the threshing machine. The guy in charge of the straw crew was the Straw Boss.
He had big responsibility but no authority as he took orders from the Big Boss who was in charge of the whole outfit.

So, as I travel through life as a farmer, father, husband, son, and most of all a child of God, I find myself much like the Straw Boss. Never in charge but always responsible!

Not a problem. I drive some people nuts with my descriptions of where I am. Probably nearly all statisticians would not describe me as being in Western NY but for me it is more an identity as indicated above than an actual physical presence but that could be said for a lot of use including other NY participants here. If all else fails I am certainly in the Finger Lakes region and then we can split hairs from there on.

K6ZRX is my ham radio callsign. Give enough info for a human to track me down, but not for the internet roving spam robots.

73 de K6ZRX
(Best regards from K6ZRX)

Because this is a tractor site and my old 1968 4020 is still my favorit out of around 15 working tractors. So 4020 it is.

I just picked 37Chief because I have several Indian Chief motorcycles, and use that handle at other sights. I wish I had used something like 37ACM (Allis Chalmers Model M) As I have several 1937 Allis Chalmers model M crawlers. That would have been more tractor related. Stan

Brother in law was making fun of me about 35 years ago for wanting to raise a few hogs as a hobby. He had a farrowing house and confinement on his dad's farm and considered himself to be a big time operator. He said I wanted to be just a shade tree operator. So, when I did start buying some feeder pigs that's what I called my business. It has evolved into other ventures like hay/straw hauling and baling, so it seemed to be a good handle for here.

My initials are KIP and I lived in Mexico when I joined this forum. Now I live in Missouri, but work in the West Indies (Trinidad). Figured I would just keep my original handle.

One day I subtracted 1,243 from 17 and I got Shrimp. Then I divided shrimp by Tuesday and I got 923.

I took the 923 and multiplied it by September, and I came up with John.

I added Illinois, then subtracted Panama, and I arrived at Pennsylvania.

So... I chose John_PA

It seems to work, even if my math is a bit fuzzy.

Reminds me of a guy they called Tex. He was from Arizona, but lived in Virginia. That's how I remember that Texas is no where near Alabama. I hope that makes sense.

It's as close to Polyproponetics as I can get.

I just made that up. But it was fun.

I live in Clover Creek, Pennsylvania. (Google it) So I am a Clover Creek -er Of German Stock. Usta be, Saying the community you were from, that got you a job at the PRR Shops, And other places.

Was branded with it years ago in my Jeep fourwheeling days. Stumps and diff covers. It was on the hood of my Jeep for years. Originally was the Jeep's name, but I ended up with it. :) So for better than a decade here and on other sites I go by it and also proudly display my home state.

Stumpy(NH)

ASE stands for Automotive Service Excellence. I've been a Master re-certified technician for over 20 years. Certified for 30 years.

(quoted from post at 18:53:13 02/01/14) Here I thought you grew crops to show at fairs or something!
Lol,

Back when the kids were showing in 4H I did show some of my second cut hay, LOL.

I used some version of my name before they had reserved names then someone reserved some version of my name and I couldn't even sigh my name at the end of a post so ended up using my initials. Lurked about with other unregistered handles because forgot what I had registered.

Man, I should do that with screwdrivers maybe I could find one when I want one. My last name is Fleming, My friends called me Flembo I have been stuck with that for about 40yrs.

I like Olivers, I had a super88 in my former life and would like to find another someday. I wanted to use super88 for a handle, but it was reserved, so the next best thing was super99. Many people think I have a real one, but it's just 1/16th scale. I'm from western Ill where the Mississippi flows east to west. Chris

I came up with this handle when playing Call of Duty. A buddy of mine, I used to get corn liquor from....... He is an old-school, southern-baptist, black man. There are just some mannerisms about southern baptist that are consistent and could almost fill a book, but anyway he would always have codewords for when he would take a drink.

He got real good homemade corn syrup, ahem ahem and he would mix it with Ocean Spray CranGrape. We just started calling the mixture of the two grape-drank and I liked it.

In baby blue, I LUSTED (in my heart....J. Carter) for one of those.
Problem was I was married and had 4 kids and a Rambler American
was the best I could afford.

Mark

I was wondering about yours, dident you say you were a NYS
trooper, or retired trooper? Maybe I have the wrong person.

I used 2badlybent at first but changed it to nybadlybent to let others know where I was posting from. The badly bent part is a play on my last name and those who know me would understand the connection.

I used a handle rather than my real name to avoid any personal conflicts as they can sometimes be ugly as some of the other posters already know.

I live way up in NY State, not far from the Canadian border and yet still get abused by others who think all New York people live in NY city. The county I live in is called St. Lawrence. It is the largest county in NY State and in fact it is the largest county east of the Mississippi river and yet the population is around 100,000 and declining. The county has about 50 miles of river front on the St. Lawrence river and to the south begins the Adirondack mountains. Great place to live if you are an outdoor sportsperson. Colder than Heck in the winter but perfect in the summer, both days.

I was looking around for a handle one day a few years ago. Couldn't think of anything that either didn't sound stupid or wasn't already taken. Just happened to look out the kitchen window and my JD G was parked out under the tree from giving my daughter a ride earlier that day. I said that over in my head a few times, liked it so I used it! NW IA is where I reside, not that far from fixerupper Jim. Name is Mike, at the time I didn't want to use anything with my name in it, didn't know what I was getting into lol. But this site and the folks on it are pretty harmless I believe. Kind of a fun topic! Thanks for asking.

Mine is so that when I ask "where can I find______?
or "who can help?" you guys don't have to wonder if I right next door or 2000 miles away.

The popular ski places are Vail and Aspen.Denver is a major metropolos on the plains just east of the mountains.Delta is way west,60 miles from the Co/Utah border.

My last name is Hood. And I am, by the way, of no relation to that abundant English fellow who so believes in involuntary redistibution of wealth(even if I took his name).

If you'd see my tractors run you would know. I seem to have a thing for injection pumps and Allen wrenches.

When I was 10 I was allowed to operate tractors when THRESHING SEASON was happening. I now have 12 "D'S in various stages....40" of snow at my place in December!

In Kentucky, of the masculine gender, and have been in the hay business for more than 3 decades. Im not one for much creativity. Lucky for my kid that the ex had a little more otherwise they would be named, one, boy child, girl child, two, etc .....

In 1974 I started driving a truck. In '75 I bought my first CB radio and an album the same day. The radio, a 23 channel Robin, is long gone. The album, Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, I still have. At the time was still helping on the farm so I became Brown Dirt Cowboy.

Well I like caterpillar tractors. We have 2 An old D-4 My grandpa bought new in about 36 and a #6 traxcavator. That is better known by is successor as the 977 Or a track loader.

When I first got on this site in 2000 I went by Bguy since I was primarily interested in JD Model Bs. As my interest broadened I decided to just abbreviate my name since I did not see any need to hide behind a handle.

Oops I apologize, I posted your handle wrong, for some reason I thought it was nytobadlybent, instead of nybadlybent, I can imagine its beautiful up there.

My wife gave me my handle, when we sold off the cows and moved back home to NH from NY and she told me I was now an X farma and it has stuck.

I bought an old Harley about 14 years ago that was assembled from spare parts, pan motor and tranny in a fx frame, other stray stuff on it and I live in TN.

Andyd4NTX , My name is Andrew (Andy) I started using this handle after I walked away from a great job in SoCal and up and moved to North Texas.
So is sounds out as "My Name" For North Texas.
I am running IH and Ford tractors.
Andrew

Real name (initials) is KC, when I moved to the country from the city a good friend was ribbing me "KC the Heyseed" it sounded funny and it stuck. Been Heyseed for over twenty years.

Years ago when I first signed on to the internet, someone commented that I was slow to get started, but once rolling you couldnt hardly stop me. Well since steamengine was already taken I had to get creative and came up with steamnjn23...both names are pronounced the same way.
