Kerosene in my part of the world is getting hard to find and the few places that have it are charging a dear price for it. I have a 60,000 BTU torpedo heater that won't stay running on #2 diesel fuel so I started doing some experimenting and finally come up with a workable solution. I am mixing 1 gallon of 87 octane gasoline to 4 gallons of diesel fuel and that seems to do the trick the heater will run all day and doesn't even explode.

Go somewhere that there is an Amish community. They use lots of those little kerosene heaters this time of year. The other day I was up in Jamesport - they have kerosene at the pump.

Local price for kerosene: $429/gal.

If you have the cash, they have the kerosene.

Where's the fun in that? I have done that too, be careful sometimes a mixture is more explosive than straight gas.

I have a John Deere space heater that burns kerosene or no.1 Diesel.
No. 1 diesel with tax is 5.02/gal. here in sw Kansas

We sell it at my shop. I've hauled in 10,000 gallons in the last two weeks along with diesel and #2 heating fuel. It's easily gotten in Southern NH. Where are you located?

The gasoline will stratify out and eventually cause a problem as your heater malfunctions inside your building.BOOM.
The local airport here sells kerosene cheaper than the hardware store or gas station.
Unless you are burning hundreds of gallons, what difference does a few cents on a few gallons actually make?

I can get it at the pump a few miles away. It's a fuel distributor that has a gas station and repair shop as well at the same location. They have gas, diesel, off road diesel, and k1. The pump for off road and k1 don't display the price anymore so I guess I really have no idea how much it is until I pump 5-10 gallons for the torpedo heater I use in the garage. Still don't really pay attention as it doesn't really matter because I want to be warm.

A friend of mine hauls fuel for FS. Would not load K! at Robinson Il. Never gave a reason His card just wouldn't load K1. Maybe this warm weather will last.

Jamesport MO.? I went through Galliton, Bethany, Cameron, all those little bergs the other day.

Can you get no. 1 fuel/diesel? In MN it's quite common and very similar to kero. If you have an airport nearby try some jet fuel, I think it's very close to kero. Mixing gas with diesel is dangerous, you still get gas fumes from it.

Yup. Delivered some squares of brome to an Amish guy and picked up a bunch of fence posts from the produce auction. It's a fun little area.

I live about 25 miles from Jamesport! There are three different places the Amish get Kerosene around here - one each in Jamesport, Trenton, and Princeton. They like the Jamesport one best, the Trenton one the least (only go there as a LAST resort). ZERO "kerosene heaters" with our local bunch. They use it for light and a few Kerosene stoves. Got some in Jamesport last Tuesday. The price was $4.689 a gallon.
