Last of the Corn--Amish

The wind/snow finally stopped and the neighbors are getting the last of the corn off the West field. This pic was taken on top of the rise, but the snow where this team was pulling at times reached the wagon tongue.

Now THAT'S a picture. I have lots of respect for folks doing their work that way. I wish I was cut from that cloth, but I like tires with air and tractors with heat.

you should see what they were under those clothes. the men like womens slacks under there pants ski googles and zippered insulated jackets under there jackets

Saw a load like that near here a few days ago. It was so wide I had to pull my pickup nearly off the road. It was heavy to, the horses really straining.
Looked like a lot of work to me and it brought back memories of the days when we would use a corn binder to put corn into bundles that we fed into the ensilage chopper. A lot of work but I guess it didn't harm me to much as I am still going. Do not have any desire to do it again though.

Nifty photo! The Amish here will leave it in the field and bring it as they need it. Being stacked like that, it will last a LONG time in the weather. The group here will not use ANY "zippered" garment - outer OR under! The homemade coats/liners they use are warmer (and more maneuverable) then just about anything you can buy anyway.

Interesting to see. Kind of brings in to perspective how far things have progressed through the years.

back in middle school and high school a good buddy lived next door to the most beautiful girl who had a swimming pool in her back yard. She would invite equally stunning friends over to swim all summer. The room where they changed clothes had a small window, and if you were in just the right spot in my buddy's bedroom, with binoculars, the show was awe inspiring...

It sounds to me like you don't have a beautiful young girl living next door, so you are peeping at the Amish undressing?

This pic may be better---There is a bright ball up in the sky---don"t recognize it...but whatever it is, it made things a bit brighter.

It is a 6 acre tree planting started with seedlings in 2005.....red/white oak and white/norway spruce....some of the trees are 15-18" tall.

From this view point, they look like shrubs.

Looking at those horses reminds me of something my wife said a couple years ago. We were in NW Oregon, driving next to some salt marshes. Sleet was blowing right to left about 40, temp in low 30's, and some ducks were bobbing around in the marsh. In a very serious tone, out of the blue, she said, "You know, I'd really hate to be a duck. . ."

Guess ditto for being a horse, with that job.

The ones here can own the baler, but they have to park it in the field, run it with a small 10-12 HP engine and belt, and bring the hay to IT, then fork it into the machine.
