Kewanee 1010 disc blade sizes?

Anyone know what the sizes are of the axle and blades for the rear gangs?

It looks to me like the back wing sections have different size blades from inside to outside. It looks like the first 5 are the same, then the outer most get smaller and smaller yet. You can see it in this literature, too. I think it was designed this way.

Anyhow, I can't find any place online where I can find the size of the gang bolt, and thickness and diameter of the blades. Mine are worn, so I can't go by measuring them. Outboard disks are gone, so that makes it even harder. It's a good disc. I like it. I wish Kewanee was still around.

When I put new 20 in blades on my IHC, I put a 18
then a 16. on the front just a 18 on the outside.
Because on the back there was a extra adapter
clamped to the last axle washer. I'm sure your disk
has 20 in blades also. Measure the thickness after
you take a blade off. The center won't be worn.
Probably 9 qauge. The blades at your local Farm
Store will probably have a center that will take at
least 2 axle sizes and will work. Also try this
site.

I have a 1020 flat fold Kewanee 28' and it has 1 1/8 square axles and 22" blades. Ordered a gang bolt from Shoup this fall and was cheaper with shipping than it was costing me to have them made. Shoup has blades also. 2 days from Ill. to E SD. to ship.

If you are going to replace all the blades I would go with the largest that will fit...should be easy to measure from the axle to the frame. You had a choice of blade size and style on most disks. There isn't that much difference in cost from one size to the next. On the rear gangs I would go 4" smaller on the outside and 2" smaller on the next. If you want a more aggressive disk, put notched blades on the front.
Agri Supply Co (ASC) has good prices and will work with you on shipping.

I'd just like to replace the outside 2 on each back gang wing. Those are the ones that are really shot. They have gang extensions. One needs completely redone, the other just needs a blade.

I don't know what to do, but I will look into doing agri-supply.

They give things in mm thickness... I don't know what that means.

I'd like to do them all. I just don't want the outside gangs to be taller than the inside. I guess I should just buy a better disc... I just don't get it, with discs.

Agri Supply lists blades both in MM that is metric measure and by gage thickness so you could figure things from there. Blades were 11 gage on the older disks up to the 50's and some in the 60's. When heavier disks came around the blade thickness became a 9 gage to stand more of the ligher horsepower shock. Still later they went to a 7 gage for that same reason. Your particular disk probably came with 9 gage blades and probably 20" diameter but could have been orderaded with 18" or 22" blades but if the 22" they probably would be a 7 gage to have enough strength to handle the side load of the blade. On the older 40's-50's disks that were light weight that came with the 11 gage blades and you replaced them with 9 gage the disk would not as good as soon as factory edge was wore off because the extra thickness was more like trying to gut with a dull knife. If you are pulling with a high horsepower tractor at maximum speed and in rocky soil then get as thick as possible that wil fit in the length of axle and also between bearings. And if you get one with the star (2 size hole) a 1 1/8-1 1/4" should fit as on that age disk I don't think they had gone to bigger axles but the 1" axle was no longer being used when that disk was made. The earlier Kewanee disks used a 1 1/8" axle. There are 3 of the orignal Kewanee wheel disks setting that I would like to get if I can figure a way to swing the costs to rebuild and I do have a buyer ready for them if I can get it done and for those diske the correct blade would be a 1 1/8" axle 11 gage thickness and 18" diameter altho they probly came with 16" diameter blades as it was thought at that time the extra 2" was not worth the extra money and it was also thought wrongly that a 16" blade worked better and pulled easier. These disks if I can get it done will be pulled with 5 to 7 actual horsepower as in Belgin and at about a 2 1/2 mph. So those conditions you do not want a thick blade but one that will cut in and throw as much dirt as possible without putting excess angle to the gang. Your disk is designed to cut over twice as deep as these that do not need a furrow lever blade like yours do and that is the reason for the smaller blades on ends of back gang.

Shoup shows Kewanee 1000 series discs having 1 1/8" square arbors/axles. If you call or email Shoup, http://www.shoupparts.com/, they will help you with the specs you need. They also sell quality blades and arbor bolts . Last blades we got from them were Ingersoll blades from Canada, and held up well.

John, The axles are 1 1/8. The blades were avail
new with 18" 9 guage, 20" choice of 8 or 9 guage,
and 22" 7-8-9 guage. The outer gangs were tapered
down on the outer 2 blades. That shows in
your picture. A great disk. If you need a parts
book I could furnish reas. Chuck

Lots of good replies, here.

I am going to go through everything posted, run outside and check for any numbers on the disc blades. Then I'll measure them and see about where they are.

I did find, just before dark last night, a stamping on one disc blade. It was stamped KMCC. I googled that, and Kewanee, and it came back as Kewanee Machinery and Conveyor Company. I guess that means the disk blades are original. ?

Well...

Looks like a job for another day as it was too muddy to get at the disc with the skidsteer.

I will have to measure the disc blades and get some ordered. I guess it is possible to get some that are bigger. I just hate to dump a lot of money into this Kewanee disc, since I might not be able to get parts for it if something else breaks.
