Gated Saddle

It can be quite amusing sometimes reading what folks post on Craigs List. I won't tell the origin of the listing, but someone here is seeking a "gated saddle" for his Tennessee Walker.
Why did I have to live so long to learn that the secret to a good ride was in the saddle? I always thought it was the horse? LOL!!

Thar vas a young man in the neighborhood that told his dad that he didn't like to ride a horse.
His dad told him that its allright cause he had a horse that didn't like anyone riding him.

There is a difference in a saddle for a gaited horse and a quarter horse but I get your point. I have never seen a saddle "gait". Gaited horse saddles are built to more properly fit the physique of a gaited horse which is different than a non gaited horse in most cases.

Ah come on guys, Difference in saddles for gaited horses. Yes there is a million different saddles, made to fit horses. When I was 18 I bought a Big Horn saddle for 100 dollars. Probably 16 in padded seat. Use a crockett roping bit. That was in 1964. I rode a Morgan type of horse then, Moved to a quarter horse, roped a little. About 20 yrs ago saw the light and got a black walking mare. She could do it all. Rode her from the Mississippi river to the Ohio at battery rock. about 100 mi. almost all trail. Still using the same saddle and bit. On my 4 th walking horse. They maybe don't like it but so far have put up with it. And yes the saddle has been worked on a good bit.

Vic, I don"t get your point. Everyone knows that a saddle must fit the horse. Sorta like you buying new shoes. Sure hurts if they don"t fit.
I have owned probably 20 gated horses in my life....TN. Walkers, Saddlebreds, Standardbreds. Until recently I rode in Confederate Cavalry Civil War Reenacting unit. We rode hard and fast. Saddle fit is important when you are in a heated sabre fight with 100 horses engaged!!
A barrel-chested Quarter horse has entirely different conformation than a slim Walker or Saddlebred. Different trees required to ease pressure on the horses" back.
