We just shipped 2 Herford cows to auction on Monday. Got $64.75 and $67.50. The first weighed 1190 and the second weighed 1610. Prices seem low here in NW WA.

Does seem a little low. Here's where we were on cows and bulls this week.

sold three last week all bulls 1500 brought .97, 1200 1.10, 525 1.77 was fairly pleased have sold for a lot less at other times

Got to be tough selling at an auction as there are no guarantees.

I see ads in the paper more and more where folks are selling there own farm raised beef their selves trying to cut out the middle men.

You"re comparing apples (beef cows) to oranges (finished steers). Big difference between even the best of each.

I was just looking at the grass and grain last night. For the first time I saw a cow/calf pair that sold for $3100. I was just finally getting used to the idea of them hitting 3K and it passed it. Whew.

It always amazes me when people get into cattle when he prices are sky high,by the time that cow has another calf she and the calf might not bring $1000.Now is the time to sell all your heifers and cull all the older cows.In a year or 2 you can keep heifers or buy some for a lot less most likely.
