Re: Logging boot vs normal heel height

I wore the higher heeled engineer boots for many years, and never had any problems with pain. Mostly i worked indoors, in a body shop, or garage area. Finally gave them up when they got too expensive, and went to regular height heels.

Rusty,
Engineer boots.....that brings back a lot of memories. Neatsfoot oil and all!
When I was a teenager back in the late 50s all us guys wore engineer boots most all the time.
They were great to wear when "puttin" in hay" as the "dungaree" leg came down over the tops and prevented hay from getting in.
At 72, I don"t know whether or not I could wear them all day anymore. LOL

I like the logger heel better than the normal healed boots. I have had 2 back surgeries and four sets of back injections. I get back aches if I don't have a shoe with at least a 1 1/2 inch heel.I have wore several brands of boots and found Chippwa logger to the most comfortable and holds up the best ( 4 years). I get the electrical safety toe, waterproof and 400 grain Thinsulate insulation. They are not a cheap boot( $205.00) but if you spread the cost over 4 years they are not bad.

Don't know anything about logger boots. I have worn walking heel(about 1 1/2 in.) cowboy boots all my life. Wife and kids made me get a pair of good tennis shoes to wear at Disney. Made me get terrible muscle cramps. Had to rent a electric scooter. Not all bad :) Vic

I read ricks post below on it,but I'll comment up here. A higher heal is easier on the knees. I learned that from one of our milk haulers. (can't speak so much for the back) Just like me and anybody else who hauled canned milk,he had knee trouble. He was telling me that an old quack doctor who nobody gave much credibility to told him that,so on a whim,or out of desperation,he bought a pair of logger boots and it cured the problem. I bought a pair of cowboy boots and started wearing those all the time and it worked.

I have a pair of logger boots and I wear them if I am going to be working in the woods on a steep bank(something we have a lot of here). Seems that with the extra heel I can bite into the ground easier, so I don't slip as much. I like to have traction so I can leave when the tree starts to fall. That is about the only time I use them as I find that they make my legs sore if I walk a lot in them, and since I am already 7' and 1/2" tall I do not need the extra height, it just puts me in range of more things to hit my head on.

I went with the lower heel, no loggers. The local Red Wing store happened to have a pair of size 15 loggers in stock. I wore them around the store for at least an hour.

Before I put them on I noticed they were heavy, real heavy! I ended up a 9 inch, 800gram insulated, waterproof boot. They should work good in the early spring/late fall in the mud.

I spent a good while surfing the web last night and found a lot of the boot options quit at size 14. Made decisions easier, less choices.

Thanks for all the info.
