Logging boot vs normal heel height

Time for a new pair of boots. I have looked at a few pair of logging boots and regular work boots.

Does the 1 1/2 inch heel on the logging boots bother your back vs the shorter heel? Does your heel tend to roll easier because of the height?

I want all leather and an aggressive sole. Don't really care about heal size. Will be wearing them in spring and fall tree digging mainly, wet and muddy. Most of my boots have all been low heels.

I love my Justin Logging boot, but I also wear tall heel riding boots. In my opinion, the taller heels help my back.

I have both, and I don't like the logger heels that much, as far as comfort. But I know guys who say the like them. I guess it depends if you have feet issues or back issues.

I have worn Red Wing Pecos for the last several years. They are insulated and I wear them year around. If I remember to oil them, they will last 3 years. I am too lazy to lace boots.

I wore Western boot for years, but had to go to the lower heel a few years back because of back pain. I know an old cowboy that HAS TO wear the high heels.

Wheat Farmer,
I have been told the reason that cowboys are wearing tennis shoes is they don't vant people thinking they are truck drivers.
I have wore nothin but kowboy boots fur 60 years now except the two years I vas in the Army

Don't know for sure, I've worn Red Wing loggers for 40 years and don't have back problems. I do know that for me they are very comfortable, and they last for a long, long, time.

It depends on the arch in your back.Truckers and people who sit a lot lose the arch in their backs, which is not good. High heels will put more arch in your back, when you walk, of course. For some people, like my son, that's good. For others, like me a low heel is the only way to go. I had a physical therapist tell me to run the treadmill at as steep of a pitch up as possible to make my feet point up to straighten out the arch in my back. JIm

LOL. yep told that same thing many times. Went to town for High School and they wouldn't let me wear boots. Dad was ------. Had my cowboy boots in the army for off duty time. Was known as the cowboy or farmer. Carried and shot the M1 like it was toy.

Hmmm. Half of you like the tall heel, other half it hurts your back.

Think I may stick with the lower heel, that"s what works for me now. At 6"5" I really don"t need more height either. Too bad I couldn"t try a pair out for a month or two, $200 is too much to spend if I don"t like the heel.

Thanks,
Rick

I wear Chippwa loggers with the higher heel and find them comfortable. I drove semi for 38 years and started wear them after my first back surgery. The flat heels give me a backache if I have to stand any lenght of time and dress shoes give me backache.I have been wearing them from back in the mid 70s.

I quit wearing logging boots when I moved to FLA from ID. I found Georgia boots and really like them. They hold up well despite being abused from time to time. My local ACE sells off their old stock every Jan. so I buy some at discount prices.

I have a pair for hunting and a pair for working round the place.

FWIW here are my favorites from them.

I've worn both and liked both. It depends on the boot I think. Good fitting boots just feel better whether high or low heel.

As far as rolling your ankle, I have "chronically unstable ankles". That means mine roll at the slightest provocation, and yes, it hurts just as bad as the first time! The heel doesn't seem to make a difference to me as far as having them roll, but if you roll it the higher heel really does a bad job and really bungs them up.

the kind of enviroment you are working in could also determine which boot is good for you.i work on concrete at work and i wear the redwing pecos slip on boot noninsulated.i also have two pairs of logging boots i wear around the farm, one pair is insulated the other is not.i prefer the loggers for cuttin firewood walking in tough hilly terrain.

Did you have any trouble breaking in the George loggers? I have had Georgia loggers and Carolina loggers and both were hard to breakin ( 2-3 weeks).I went to the Chippwa loggers (water proof chip-a-tex) and put them on and wear them all day from day one. They are the only boots that I have ever worn that didn't need a breakin period.

That's something I don't understand, the urban cowboys around here will sometimes slide out of their truck wearing cowboy boots but they can't hardly get around in muddy ground 5 months a year, or on icy ground another 5 months a year.

Real farmers here all wear orange chainsaw boots or insulated rubber boots most of the time and wear work boots in summer.
