Credit cards?

Just wondering what you guys use. Do you use checks, cash or credit cards? I'm a combination of all three. Have 1 credit card, and it gets paid in full when the bill hits my mailbox, so I'm not getting in trouble with it. Kinda worried about all the fraud that is going around though. Most places that I do business at will take checks, so that is what we mainly use. Just can't imagine using cash all the time. Would have to carry lots of it. It's not uncommon to go to town and spend $500-$1000 on supplies and feed. Had a $43,000 grain check to put in the bank one day and there was a new girl working in the bank. Told her I would like to cash a check and when she looked at it her eyes got pretty big. Then I said to just deposit it in my account.

I charge everything on my credit card, than just write a check for it when the bill comes, no problems so far in 17 years. Plus I get cash back awards. I just can't see it a good idea to carry a lot of cash around for my purchases.

We have 1 credit card and it only gets used for hotel rental, emergency purchases, or some times if I order by phone when I need something quick. Otherwise, I have always used cash, check, or money order. Now with all the fraud and identity theft, We are even more leery of plastic.

Except for really big purchases I use cash. Generally have any where from 200 to a couple of thousand on me or available.

I keep one credit card exclusively for online purchases. I carry a different card with me.

Checks cost more for banks to process, so expect them to eventually be gradually discouraged and phased out.

I use credit card a lot. Always can dispute unauthorized charges, and by lay you are only responsible for $50 of fraudulent charges. Won"t use debit as I don"t want to have my account drained or have to argue with bank to get MY money back.

We had just 1 credit card that we paid off every month. About 2 years ago someone got the number and used it on a couple of purchases that was not of our fitting. One purchase was for $1.96, which we never charge anything that small. It was soon replaced. Now we use a debit card of a low daily amount for paypal and other simular purchases and the credit for gas and larger purchases. Mostly checks or cash for daily things.

Was using a debit card daily. My card was one abled to be used as debit or credit. After all of this fraud started I went and had a conversation with my banker. She told me the better choice was to use it as credit because visa or mastercard insures a credit card but debit card was not protected. In the state of Texas if you have done prior business with a company using debit they can "force" a payment
through. Go ahead, ask me how I know.

I think I'm odd. I prefer to use cash for any transaction that I can.

I have checks and a credit card of course, but I try to use them as little as possible.

The main reason is I'm an awful impulse buyer. So I've gotten into the habit of leaving checks and cards at home. If I don't have the cash on me, I don't spend it.

I don't even have an atm card.

I give myself a weekly allowance, and go to the bank once a week to take it out. And that's all I spend for the week.

Bills are paid by check or electronically.

Works well for me.

I carry 3 credit cards but usually only use two because I am mad at one company or another. I have never lost a penny with a credit card. A girl got my wife's a few year ago and ran up $850 at Walmart. Not too smart, she went to jail for a year. Just never, ever pay them interest! If you ever get in a tiff with PayPal your credit card will protect you wheras PayPal will dither and just collect their money and let things go. I also like the 1.5% refund I am getting on all purchases with one of the cards. There has been a rash of account number changes the past year but the card carrier (you) are always protected. In my community near the Mexican border no-one will take a check, either cash or plastic.

if you use a card correctly its the same as 30 days cash and if you have an interest checking account you can make money .i had both cards and checking acct both got raided now cash only most guys give discounts for cash

My wife lost her credit card three months ago, but I did not report it. It turns out that whoever found it was spending much less than she was.

Checks when I'm home, credit when I'm away from home. We have never paid interest to a credit card company and never will. My son puts all of his truck fuel on credit card and pays it off every month. He gets a lot of free motel nights when he and his family go on vacation. Jim

Not unusual to carry $1000 or slightly more. Daughter has preached not to do this when I visit her in Chicago, but I always reply if someone robs me perhaps thay will be happy to get some extra money and not bother to inflict general mayhem. At this later juncture, life means more than a few dollars. Furthermore in the older times this would have been big money; but not so much today. Believe the most I've carried is 9-10 thousand and that was to purchase some farm machinery from an individual. Seldom have less than a 2-3 hundred unless I've been over to my son's house. He is typically broke and needs money to feed his three kids and/or pay bills. Frequently takes it all. Charge card only for online purchases. Checks are only used to charge card bill, and other misc. bills such as real estate taxes, income tax, insurance invoices.

I use credit card (or some cash) for all purchases, but pay bills with checks. I pay in full each billing cycle.

However....I gave my daughter a card a few years ago with instructions it was for emergency use only. The statement came to her. That worked fine until last year; when I became aware of what was going on (phone calls from Visa) she had run up over $12,000 and another $2,500 in late charges and interest. Costly life lesson.

(quoted from post at 18:49:47 01/27/14) We had just 1 credit card that we paid off every month. I'd quit using the debit card on paypal. If someone hacks you and there's a lot of money in the account, they can clean you out. You're likely to get your money back, but it may take a lot of time and hassle.

I have a personal card, farm card, business debit card, and personal debit card in my wallet. All items go on separate cards for tax purposes. All are paid off monthly. I also buy from one gas station and hardware store and I have a charge account each place Usually less than $50 cash. Someone lifts your wallet, you can cancel the cards. But they get the cash!

I haven't seen more than $40.00 in my wallet in years. I use a debit with a daily limit. Most places around me won't take a check anymore or they do some electronic thing where they hand you the check back. Checks are expensive these days.

I have one credit card that I wish I didn't have. I keep a low balance, if any.

I would prefer to do everything I can with cash, but it's just not feasible for me anymore. I pay as much as I can electronically. With 49 cent stamps, expensive checks, not knowing if the check will actually get there...I like paying on line and getting a confirmation number.

i use cash and checks if the place im at wont take either i dont trade with them, i got myself in trouble with credit cards a long time ago, learned my lesson and dont have any now

I only use my credit card to buy gas. Use checks for everything else. No debit card. Don't pay interest on cc or on any of our accounts with vendors. 2 business and 1 personal checking accounts. No bank fees. Checks when bought in quantity are cheap. I did use my cc at a store once.

In the Dallas area, if you use a check, its scanned and and taken out of your account same as if you used a debit card, so no reason to write checks at stores anymore.

I hear you on the fraud. Makes me nervous to use my debit card, but really don't want to carry that much cash in downtown Dallas, either.

Walmart and maybe a few others do that here in IL. At Menards you just sign the check and the register prints the amount. They show you what the register prints before they put the check in the drawer. We had a debit card briefly. Our bank charged a small fee every time it was used. After the first month we got rid of the debit card.

All credit cards. That way I have a copy of expenses, incase I lose receipt. Credit cards are auto paid from checking. I make many $$$$ on credit card points. Can't say that about checking or debit.
