Insulating innersoles

Follow-up to Jay's boot thread. I agree that the Sorels are not what they used to be. My old pair were great for forty years, but it was partly do to the innersoles that I added. They are a dense foam that supports your weight so you have extra insulation while standing or walking in snow. They are made by Implus.

I looked at em the other day (I need new liners) and it looked to me like Sorel is making 2 or 3 levels of boots. Guess they are trying to cover all areas of the income/need spectrum.

I've found that 1/2" carpet padding works good if you cover the smooth side with some wide packing tape 8)

The bane of winter foot ware is moisture. Any time water saturates the felt, foam, cloth, insulite, the thermal value goes to near zero. My faith in Mickey Mouse Boots is the simple fact that the insulation is kept dry inside the boot with a liner. The boot does one other thing. it laces up. Lacing allows it to be snug enough to not pull ones socks down into the toe from constant heel rubbing. The weight is consistant with Muck boots, but they do not lace.
I have had soaked socks from stepping in water over the top, and still maintained warm feet in 5 minutes when the water reached foot temp (warm). I have them on now, as I keey in this message in preparation to moving some snow. (-40 windchill here in St. Cloud) Jim

Muck boots since Cabela's had em on sale summer 2012. Tossed three pair of old boots out the second time I wore them
