Farmall H Rear Axles

I've been corresponding with another former YT'er and he says he has a Farmall "H" tractor with rear axles that only have one keyway in them.

Has anyone ever seen axles with only one keyway or can they be for a different tractor but also fit an "H"?

I have parted out or fixed about 10 or 12 Hs and they all have had two keyways, but that is certainly not definitive.

The axles may have come off something else. I know the axles of a 340 are the same diameter as the H but has the single key way because I put the rims and center from an H on a 340. Was not super easy to do but I got it done

I don't remember our 41 H ever having a second keyway. Was bought in 49 when I was 6 years old and traded off in 84.

same here ,have parted a couple of H"s & have 2- that are restored , have never seen any with 1 key groove ever at a show or on a farm , the factory cast centers require 2 keys , so it must have been changed at one time , does it have factory cast centers?

Never tried it but to be possible I think the axles, axle housings and bull gears from something like a farmall 340 or some 460 tractors with matching bull gear tooth angle and 2.5 axle would need installed on the H. If I remember correct a H axle has different axle splines for the bull gear compared to a 300, 350, 340, 460 axle.
