Vacation in Canada cut short

Well I got back yesterday evening when buddies and I were supposed to be snowmobiling in northern Quebec for the week. At 2:00 AM Sunday one of the guys noticed that the truck and enclosed four place trailer were gone, along with our four sleds inside. We were in a very out of the way place as opposed to a road side place, so this was very unusual. We found out that the thieves are usually local and usually get caught, but that the sleds are usually long gone because they are often quickly sold to the Indians on the reservation forty miles to the north. The Indians aren't required to register them. I had always wondered how the Indians and Eskimos that you see on TV with them could afford them.

Worst feeling in the world is wishing you could have caught the )(#$'s in the act.

Hope you're at least covered insurance wise - wouldn't make up for the ruined trip, but would make it a lot worse if you weren't.

Unrelated, but the title of you posting reminded me of some guys I know several years ago who did a big hunting trip in Canada. Drove 13 hours to the border only to find out the border guards wouldn't let one of the guys in because he had a DUI on his record.

That surprised everybody.

The lodge/guide service was all paid for, so nobody really wanted to turn back.

That poor )#(*$#rd had to rent a car and drive the 13 hours back home alone, cursing all the way.

The others did all pitch in and cover his portion of the trip - which wasn't cheap.

showcrop,

If I put my anger into words, well this would attract the moderators attention.

Hope you can recover, be it insurance or getting your belongings back.

My hatred for thieves and liars runs deep.

JR,
It's been known for several years that if you have a record with the police you better check with the Canadian authorities first to see if you can get across the border.

Every time we take a newbie on our Canadian fishing trips we tell him to make sure he is clean. If he can't get in, we let him figure out how to get home....because we are going fishing!

I have zero sympathy or interest in having a friend who drinks and drives...very easy to make new friends with people who know how to conduct themselves.

This is not a sermon, just the facts of being a responsible adult.

By the way...we enjoy a drink in the cabin at the end of a great day! Up there, they are all great days.

Oh I'm with you.

I've lost quite a number of friends who were either drunk driving or killed by drunk drivers.

But even though I didn't name him here, I'll still defend him a little.

It was back in the days before there was so much education on the matter - and he wasn't really all that drunk at the time. Somebody rear-ended him at a stop sign. Another friend had an open beer in the car...

Most people would have fought it and got off. He chose to take his medicine and pay the fines.

Not saying what he did was right, nor would he - but I view what he did as much different than somebody doing it in this day and age. It's a different world.

Back then you just didn't think too much about having three of four beers at a bar and driving home. You thought you were being responsible if you drove slow and easy. "Drunk" was slurring your words and swerving on the road.

JRSutton,

Your taking words from my opinion..

Drunk is/was defined. I believe it no longer withstands scrutiny.

I think we've collectively have cursed the loss of life due to drunks. Yet, we tolerate texting while driving, which appears to be ten times more deadly.

sorry showcrop, friend of mine has his chevy blazer and trailer {with sleds]stolen from gas station about 20 years ago. one of the guys was sleeping in the back about 20 miles down the road he woke up and the thieves let him go. I think it was in quebec. I have only been to Canada once hauled skidder to just across boarder. stories like these make not wanna go back.
