Face mask for working in cold (I wear glasses).

I can sure feel it in my chest from working in the -20 degree F weather recently.

Wearing the ski mask I've been using lately fogs up my glasses almost immediately.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a good mask to cover my mouth and face which doesn't interfere with my glasses too much ?

im not sure if this trick well help or not driving forklifts in and out of freezers will fog glasses and we used to put soap on them.

Good ball cap pulled low, hooded sweatshirt & hooded jacket, drawstrings tight and a Cowboy bandana.

All that should be out in the wind is your eyes/glasses.

Just a dust mask will not work, because when you exhale, enough moist breath comes out the top to fog your glasses. But if you put tape at the top, so exhaled breath would be directed out the bottom, would probably fix the problem. Paint respirator would probably work "as is", but how are you going to make one fit over your glasses?

I wore a motorcycle helment with a face shield back when I plowed snow with no cab, it worked for me but I wasn't wearing glasses back then.

IHC Red,

I don't think that there is a good solution. I have the same problem. I got around it by enlarging the hole around my mouth and the one over my nose so that the vast majority of my exhaled breath goes out past the mask instead of going up the inside of the mask to my glasses.

Obviously, by doing so, I diminished the effectiveness of the mask, however, I can get by with the mask as it is since the coldest temperatures here in Middle Tennessee seldom get down to single digits.

I hope someone else has a fool-proof solution to suggest to you. I need the solution too.

I have the same problem and watching your thread for ideas.

However, I do have something we all need to remember when wearing any face mask or covering...............DON'T FORGET TO REMOVE IT BEFORE GOING INTO BANK, CONVIENCE STORE, GAS STATION, OR ANY OTHER RETAIL ESTABLISHMENT !!!

(grin) ☺

I've got a firefighters flash hood that came home with me from the Navy that I will use when it gets too cold. The nice thing about it is that it has a big area around the neck that will tuck into your shirt to keep the chill off your neck. It has a single, elastic hole in the neck which can be tucked under the chin if you want to, or let close up to where it covers your nose and mouth. I've worn glasses with it on several occasions and never had a problem.

It is just like working with a mask when it is hot your sweat & breath fog your glasses when you wear a mask so like Rob Hartman says, for rust removal or sand blasting I wear a respirator.

Ski masks work pretty well if you wear some ski goggles over your glasses. Glasses don't fog up very easily under those big vented goggles.

Look at snowmobile masks, they vent downward under the rim of a helmet. I have cut out the screened mouth openings to reduce the back pressure that forces your breath out the top and sides of a mask when you are breathing hard.

Good luck.

3M makes a paper dust mask that has a relief valve for when you exhale. My glasses don't fog nearly as much with those masks compared to a regular dust mask. Other brands may have that feature now too. You can find them in most hardware stores.

I recommend a Full Motorcycle helmet, with a Full face shield.
Wrap your neck along with the Helmet and you will really breath easy.
My face shield flips up.
That was the only way I could stand being out plowing snow during the 1970's Blizzard..and I keep it handy..!!
