For those of you who chop sileage

That is really impressive to watch but it seems impractical, especially when the big choppers used today cut half the width and still need 700-800 hp to do it. At some point it will catch on though, just like 60 and 90+ foot-wide corn planters have....
 
Awfully large number of moving parts there, and the
current large heads are a real task to keep corn
away from as it is....
 
One twenty dollar bearing goes out and you have 7 trucks @ $80/hour waiting on you. I think I would take two smaller harverstors to mitigate the risk of downtime.
 
I think the same thing about a 48 row corn planter and 16 row combine. One snafu and everything comes to a halt, a lot of eggs in one basket.
 
12row 30ft head, 1100hp in not too much in good corn. We use trucks and too much head for the power makes the field speed too slow for the trucks first gear.
 

Look how much you loose because the wagon has to be so far back instead of to the side. Also a pretty slow speed for trucks.
