Any thoughts on why my 67 Ford 2000 charge light stays on ? What should I check, and how should I check it ? Any insights will be appreciated.

The first thing to check is the battery voltage. Use any volt meter you have. A Volt/ohm meter works the best. See what the voltage is at the battery while setting. Then start the tractor and see if the generator is charging. If it is the voltage will slowly raise. IF it does not then your system is not charging.

Check the wiring out as you may just have a bad connection some where.

To completely check it out Search for John T's step by step post on working on a generator system. I thought I had it marked but I don't. I am sure some others do.

Find the parts section of this site and purchase yourself a Delco 10si conversion kit WITH tach drive for that tractor....
Non-charging Ford's of that vintage are about as common as snow north of the 49th.
Usually the regulator is bad and needs replaced. 2 weeks after you change that the brushes will go in the generator... then the regulator will die again a month later... then the armature will crap out in the gen a while after that.
The conversion, despite it's impressive purchase price... is the cheap solution.
If you buy it, post back when you do and someone will help you figure out the fitting and wiring...

If it has an alternator and it IS charging, the Rear Bearing will strongly attract a metal screw-driver..
Turn your lights ON, to be sure it should be charging when you do..

Checking for a magnetic field at the back of the alternator only will tell you you that the stator is getting power. You need to look at voltage to see if there is any power coming out.
