I am looing at 648 New Holland Round baler it is a 4 x 5 bale. The monitor is missing. How dependable are hese machines? How much to replacre the monitor. Scott

If it's anything like mine, it doesn't actually have a monitor- rather, a buzzer that mounts on the tractor and beeps to tell you when the bale is full and the twines tubes are about to go into the bale chamber, and beeps again to tell you the tubes are rehomed and the bale is ready to be ejected. If the cord from the baler has a two pin plug, it only has the beeper. If it has about twenty pins, it has the big monitor. They can be pricey. But I don't thenk the buzzer will cost too much.

If it has the Bale Command system,
Don't think you can run it without the monitor. No idea about the cost of one. Can you trace it back to the PO and get the monitor?? BE SURE to get the book that goes with the monitor. It is a separate book from the basic machine.

I have a 648 baler. it never had a monitor. I use the bale size indicator to tell when to stop and tie the bale (hydraulic tie). in the event that the operator is daydreaming and tries to make the bale too big for the chamber, the pickup shear bolt will protect the baler from damage.
my baler had a lot of hay through it before I got it, and it still keeps on going.

Netwrap uses Bale Command, gotta have a monitor. They run about a grand. Autowrap, which is twine doesnt need a monitor. All the monitor does is flash and buzz when the bale is full.
