Had to put our old aussie to sleep this morning,
she was 12 years old. My constant companion, always
in the pickup truck, and my chore buddy, best dog i
ever had at keeping cattle or horses on the right
side of the gate while the tractor went in and fed
bales... I guess i'm luck that we have a daughter
of hers, but somehow it's just not the same.

No, its never the same. Each one is unique and special in their own way.

They become family and seeing them go is hard.

Sorry for your loss, we had to have our Cocker put to sleep in Dec., he was 8. We have gotten another, but there isn't a day go by that I don't miss my Tagger.

My yellow lab was 11 last Aug. and I am dreading that day. I am so sorry for your loss. Just bought a sticker for the rear window in my truck...says "The more people I meet...The better I like my dog". Sometimes that holds true.

yes it is never the same they are such individuals - we had a peek-a-poo that was with us 17 healthy years. don't think any other could match him, but we have a shitzu that is a real deal too.

Had to put my German Shorthaired Pointer to sleep last November and he was 13 years old. Don't want to do that again. Every time I think about him I get a tear in both eyes. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry for you loss, but that is a God gift that we can do for them. Guess I have lost over 10 in my life time. but the sad day will be when my dog looses me, and will not understand. Ok I have to go dry my eyes now.

So sorry for your loss. I had to put down my Cocker Spaniel back in August,..he was 15 yr old and like you,..the best dog I ever had. Still miss him every day and haven't brought myself to the point where I can replace him as of yet.
They are family and another dog just isn't the same,..no two are alike no matter what people say.All I can say is cherish the memories and remember the Good Lord has him waiting for you.

Sorry for the double post.

Sorry to hear about your loss.My ol buddy Bear passed on last summer and I still get choked up sometimes when I get to thinking about him, he was there by my side for 13 years and I think he knew my mind better than I . although you cant replace a good dog you can share your home with another dog a house is so empty without a dog.

i know what your saying about another dog not bein the same i lost one this past summer myself.but keep in mind there are alot of lonely dogs out there that would love to have a good home.

It's always hard when we lose a best friend. We have lost 2 Aussies way before their time. One was run over, and the other was killed in an auto accident we were in. A few weeks after the accident my bride, nursing deep tissue brusing and damage and 5 broken bones said we needed another. She wanted one to hold, and our aging golden retriever that survived was morning the loss of her friend, and her health was declining.

That was one of the best things we did. The golden lived another 3 years, and two years after the new puppy, we acquired a rescued Aussie. The fond memories you have will slowly replace your sadness, and soon you will want and need another. Your heart will make room for another best friend, and it won't let you forget about the ones before.

It is hard. We lost ours in September, and it is still hard to go outside without him. When he saw me put on cap and pick up my "stick" he would be bouncing at the door.
I think Nancy Howell's post states it very well.
