Screw for points adjustment

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement brass screw that is in the distributor to adjust the points. It is for an Allis WD-45 and the part # is 70205786. The size is a 6. But, a 6-24 will not work. Could I use a tap and rethread and just use a 6-24 screw?

Well why not get the correct screw for it??? It is a #6 screw but not a 26 thread pitch screw. It should be a #6- 32 thread screw. That should not be a hard size to find. It is a finer thread than the #6-26 screw.

Check with some older mechanics. I would bet that they have one in a misc. box/jar,drawer.

Probably did not realize there are both cours and fine thread screws and thought it was some oddball that is no longer avaible.

the finer threads allow for more precise adjustment of the points.

Any decent hardware store should carry both NF and NC #6 screws in brass.
