Ford oil filter

I thought since I have a Ford I should get their oil filter. Probably only a few bucks more. I go in no one at the counter. the parts guy see's me, but he's busy. I waited maybe 3 min. He shows up, and I told him I want a want a Ford filter. He comes back with my 820S filter. says it's $8 and some change. Then he gives it to me. Said since I had to wait you can have it for free. I felt bad, because, when I left, I headed to Wall Mart to buy my ford Motor craft oil. I got over that feeling by the time I left the dealer. I hear so many bad counter experiences I thought I would throw out a positive one. Stan

My Ford pickup takes the same MotorCraft 820S filter.
Seems like they're only a few bucks depending on where you buy them.
Normally they're not free though!

I am a Ford Parts Manager & I sell FL/ Filters
for gas engine's for $5.50 over the counter all
day long... At that price they are still cheaper
at walmart, I can't even begin to compete with
the Motorcraft against walmart & I don't try
too. If a Ford Dealer buys Filers from a Motor/
craft Distibutor he getting them for $3.49 if he
purchase's a gross at a time. Oil on the other
hand case lotts & even at over 500 gallons at a
time a 5 quart jug will cost me over 21.00.

Ford has bowed down to Walmart & even created
special internal part numbers ending with a W
& Only available to Walmart Inc.. A ford Dealer
cannot purchase a train load & stay afloat.
Since I know what Walmart pays by the train
load, they make more on a filter they sell for
4.48 than make I off one selling it for 5.50.

I was thinking along that line myself. I spent the last ten years of my "timeclock" career behind the parts counter at Ford dealerships, (2), and often thought how rotten the dealerships are treated by the company. We used Motorcraft filters, but bought bulk oil for shop oil changes from a Valvoline distributor.

My local Mobil service station / bulk dealer tells of similar treatment from the area Mobil distributor. Says he can and does buy Mobil 1 motor oil cheaper at Sams or Walmart at retale, than his wholsale price from the Mobil distributor.
