Brandon J.....rotator cuff repair

Hi Brandon,
I was reading your posting last night about the questions you had about rotator cuff repair. Well I didn't respond last night because I had a doctor appt. today for the same issue. About 4 months ago, I had 2 bad falls, the 2nd fall is when I heard a "tear" in my right shoulder like meat ripping. Sounds nasty, I'm sure, the sound of that happening was too. Anyway, I had an MRI done to find out what damage I did. So today my doc said I have 2 severely torn tendons on my shoulder (rotator cuff) that I will need surgery for. So I will have to have the surgery done in the next 3-6 months for best results. Doc says any longer waiting time and my shoulder will be irrepairable. So I am saying to you, please check it out and seriously consider what you need to get fixed up properly. I don't know how old you are, I am 45 years old. I have pretty beat the sh#$ out of my body by thinking I was invinciable at a younger age working. Working was literally beat into my head by my old man (dad). So I grew up using my back instead of my head. LOL I don't have any problem with hard work, but if you have the right teacher in life, things could have turned out much better I believe. So I say to you, best of luck. Take care. I hope you get well soon.

You need good luck to.i just had mine done that night hopped in truck and went did chores.there is very little i couldnt do only thing i would recomend is maybe wait till closer to spring. i know the saying do it when times are slow but i was good up untill it snowed and i had a close call and almost went off the tractor a few slips on ice and its got me going real slow dont want to do it twice .good luck

I had mine about a year ago now and I couldn't be happier I am back to all most full range of motion and at 70 that is good for the way I treated my body early on
good luck

Hello Brandon
I had both done several years ago ,I was really pleased with the surgery . The only thing I don t have any upper arm strength . As long as it is waist height I can still do anything I want to do .
The Boss wanted me to wait until I retired but I had plenty of sick time so I used it to have mine done. Just do what the Dr . says & don t rush it , I was layed up for 5 weeks each time .

it all depends on how bad and how many tears you have I was out of work for 14 weeks, dr didn't want me to go back then. good luck it can be a pretty tuff surgery

I had both of mine done one in o5 and the other in 06. Don't let them rush you back to work I went back too soon and that is why I had to have the second one done. You will be weak for a long time. Like AZ says no upper strength but waste to chest high good strength now. Follow all Dr. orders and do the PT. It will hurt but you will be glad in the end that they made you hurt. I know a lady that didn't like the pain and quit going to therpy and now can't even tie her shoes.

Good Luck

Interesting thread. I just got home from the hospital. A friend was carrying groceries in and lost his balance. He really messed his up. Doctor will check him in the morning.

I had my right wing rebuilt back in 1990. If I had the choice again, I would get it done. The longer you wait, the harder the recovery. And like the others have said, never skip on the rehab. My rehab specialist was cute and I also worked with her husband.

Not stealing the post here, just adding a little humor. When I had mine done in 08 there were five of us in the area of our small town that had shoulder surgery at about the same time. One day three of us victims happened to meet on the sidewalk so we were standing there swapping stories, all three of us with an arm in a sling. I wish I could remember the remarks and comments we got from people walking by. If I remember right, I was the only one who did not hurt the shoulder by falling. I was shoveling snow and it just snapped. Jim

Something to think about i have always sleeped on my side i dont remember where i got this tip at but find a good recliner i spent 2 months in one it helps a lot. The mutts kinda lonesome on the couch but i didnt have to listen to her snore!

I had my rotator cuff surgery about 10 years ago...best thing I ever did for my body.
Be sure to follow the rehab thoroughly and that will pay off in recovery speed and comfort.

When I had my pre-operative physical a few days before surgery, I told the nurse that I was really scared about all this. She said I would be fine.

Then I asked her "Will I be able to play the piano after I heal up?". She said "Yes, you will". I then said "Oh, good, because I never have been able to play that thing". She laughed so hard she had to sit down.

Hi Brandon. If you haven"t done so already, I definitely suggest putting a cold compress on your shoulder as often as possible. This will get down the inflammation and will help with the pain. My uncle had a rotator cuff tear and I got him to use this shoulder wrap...BFST (blood flow stimulation therapy). He avoided surgery and is on his way to a full recovery. It promotes blood flow to the injured area bringing nutrients and added elasticity/lubrication with it. I added some information about rotator cuff tears. Hope this helps.http://www.kingbrand.com/Rotator_Cuff_Treatment.php?REF=46PV5

These are fantastic posts! It"s so great to hear how well everyone recovered. Did most doctors recommend strictly cold therapy afterwards, or some sort of physical therapy to get the circulation going instead?
