b414 brake discs

Is there any brake discs out there that is a really good holding disc??Where do i get good ones? What is a good way to rough up the steel brake discs?? Want to get the brakes to hold on this ol girl..THANKS

If they are the style i think they are, if they are causing problems (especially locking on then banging when they release) then chances are that the housings need machining to bring the wear on the expander and housings back to the original spec. I did this on one of my Nuffields and the brakes are great... also took the expander apart and polish up the balls/ramps and remove any burrs on the expander and housing. When you put them back together DO NOT use any grease on the balls and ramps.

I meant to add that if the adjusters have much more than about half an inch of thread showing, it's probably worth machining the housing... iirc i took 50 thou off mine and then the adjuster nut was right at the end of the threads when i put everything back together

Also if the brakes are oily from hydraulic fluid. Left side on my 2444 did this from leaky hydraulics over the drum.
Put a seam of silicone around the drum when reassembling.
It also helps keep water out. NOt sure why they did not put a gasket there?

Also I put a thin film of disc brake grease on the balls and tracks.

What is a good way to rough up the steel brake discs??

I've done this on low budget automotive brake repairs and it worked well. Use a 40 grit flap disc in an angle grinder. Try to hold the grinding disc flat and keep it moving.

I've got two B275s, one B414 and one 3414. All have the same brakes. The dry ones work fine. The ones with oil on them don't work at all. I just put new brakes on my 3414 from this Website. Also had to fix the leaks. When I say the work "fine" I mean they will stop the tractor coming down a steep hill without much effort and NOTHING hooked behind. I wouldn't want to trust them with a loaded wagon.
My Case 580CK has a similar setup. So do Deere 1010s. Look like AUSCOs to me.

On the parts that you can take out to deglaze them I use a sand blaster or bead blast cabinet this will clean them up good and deglaze them for good stopping.
