Ford 4000 Value

Hi all, my buddy asked me to ask you guys what you think is a fair sale price for this tractor. I attached the link. We both think that $8000 is too high, I was thinking more around the $6000 area. THIS site says that it is worth about $4300 or something like that just as a bare tractor. Let me know what you think! Thanks, Bryce

few years ago a gas version of yours with loader that they were asking $7,600 for went for $4,600. Bill

$5-7k, depending on how good it is or isn't, so I think your estimate of $6k is about right. Location affects price as well.

For comparison purposes, 4 or 5 yrs ago I paid $4,000 for this diesel 4400 without the snow blower. A neighbor gave me the snowblower. With some effort and a couple hundred dollars it works just fine.

I am with you on that tractor, it is an older 4000 with the external steering cyl on the left side but the loader is worth $2500 or so and the tires are good I think if it is close and you need it go for it.

Headlights in the grille means it is an English version. Lots of differences in parts. Had a customer who had one and tore the PTO out. Local dealer could NOT get parts for it. It went to junk. BUYER BEWARE!

Thats a nice looking 4400, I have the same tractor, but mine has the 753 hoe on the back of it. I'll tell ya what, they can sure make a mess fast. :) Thanks for the info guys! Bryce

His dealer probably didn't try very hard, then. The vast majority of mechanical parts are the same between the US and British versions. (but some parts ARE no longer available new...mainly low volume parts)

Something is worth what you can get someone else to pay for it. The ad says $8000 firm, which sometimes means that the seller will not budge a bit. And maybe someone will pay that much.

It looks pretty nice, although the ad would have been a lot better if they had included more than 2 photos. It also would have been nice if they had masked the good looking back tires better when they spray painted the wheels. I wonder if that "roll bar" and canopy were engineered and built by a qualified fabricator or if they are home brew? Lots of questions.

$8000 seems kind of high to me, but the machine may have had a lot done to it. I am going to bookmark this post to see if the tractor sells in the next couple of weeks. Rathdrum ID isn"t that far away from my place, and I might contact the owner about looking at the tractor. Thanks!

I think 5-6 is more realistic. It's an early model, older tires, etc. It does look decent... but it's an old tractor and looks can be deceiving. It's certainly not worth the asking price.

Well, we went and looked at it. His mom wrote the check for $8000. The guys was really nice and had a lot of info on the tractor, and here are some pros as to why they decided to buy it:

Roll bar was built REALLY well!!

Loader had been worked on, but was fixed up really well and looked strong.

Engine was recently rebuilt, and seemed as though it had VERY low hours on it after.

All of the hydro cylinders on the loader were rebuilt, and every single hose on the tractor was brand new.

Battery was new.

Instrument Cluster was new.

And there were still a few other things. Over all it seemed like a really nice tractor. The people that bought it thought that it was about $500 over priced, however both of us figured that in our area, it was an okay deal. Seller is happy, buyer is happy, and well, I got a free All You Can Eat dinner, so I am happy. :) Bryce

????? I've seen people pay way more than something is worth many times.

There's absolutely no difference between PTO parts on an A, B or C prefix tractor. There are model year variations due to updates... and some parts are damn well expensive... but it has nothing to do with assembly location. The guts of the tractor were all the same save the local variations due to certain electrical equipment options for certain markets... and the addition of a handbrake to most of the EU models.

I hope it all works out and the workmanship of the repairs was good... If it wasn't, then your buddy got burned pretty bad.
There's just something about DuPont restorations that give me the chills. A happy seller on these deals is seldom a good omen.
