OT... different lap top?

Looking at a couple different lap tops. Both set up pretty much the same, as to speed and processor. One has Windows 7 the other Windows 8. Which is better and why?

Thanks

Most of the computer illiterati are happier with 7 (I sure am). 8 is quite different, and has a learning curve. I'm only interested in a few kinds of curves anymore, and a learning curve isn't one of them.

Windows 8 is for touch screen units. Everything I have is 7. A lot of new units that have conventional screens get loaded with 8 because the assembler is licened for the 8 system. You will need to take it to a repair shop and have the system reloaded back to windows 7. The new system really sucks in a machine without touch screen. Jeffcat

Replaced my 6 year old Toshiba with a new HP unit with 8 from Wally World. 300 bucks on sale. Im still figuring out 8, but it seems OK, but I have my wife to help me since she has a Surface with 8 and really loves it.

I just asked this same question a couple of weeks ago of my computer expert, Matt of Bulldog Computer in Chelsea, MI. He said stay away from Vista and 8, almost no one likes either one, 7 is better. You would think such a large company as Microsoft would come out with a much better product. I am staying with my XP as long as I can.

I moved up to 8.1 it's great for me but I do a lot of computer experience going back to before the personal computer came out.
I ordered a touch screen monitor but I goofed and didn't get the one I wanted still waiting for Tigerdirect to get back to me on my mistake.

Well mine crashed about 15 months ago. Went a bought a new Toshiba wit windows 7. Six weeks latter Geek squad calls says hey you paid for 8 and we will install it for free. You no me wanting to get what I paid for said sure. Well year latter I am still learning 8 but in all truthfulness that is where everthing is headed so not too bad. Just takes some learning but pretty nice AFTER you get the hang of it.

Nothing at all wrong with 8.

Update to 8.1 and it gives you the option of booting to the familiar Win 7 style interface.

Last one I bought is a factory refurbished Dell Latitude. I got it from the Dell financial auction site. Paid $240. Came with Windows Vista business already installed and it also has as many of the "go fast" options you could possibly want. My wife adopted it, and calls it hers. Oh well.

Word that I had is that Microsoft is working on a new system that will obsolete Windows 8 as soon as it is released. If possible, wait for the new operating system.

Bought a new dell a month ago. salesman showed me this and that.I asked whats the difference between 7 and 8. He said 7 is for people that don't know how to use a computer. Give me that one. I'm happy with it. Not much different between this and vista that I can see.
