Mitsubishi tractor

I am thinking of purchasing a Mitsubishi 2801 tractor. Its a small tractor with a 4 cyl diesel 33hp. Being new to tractors, some things I noted are it has a shuttle shift lever, a high, low and super low lever, a differential lock and a 4 speed shift lever so 12 speeds I guess - everything seems to work fine except the guages, which don't work. I am used to driving standard cars but I guess tractors are different as you actually start in whatever gear you select, no shifting once moving??? I noticed you cannot see the brakes - I had thought they would be large drum brakes, but they seem to be inside the axle/differential housing. How do those work? They seem to hold the tractor Ok, I put it in gear and applied the brakes and they held it fine. Do you have to split the axle housing to get at those brakes - is it some sort of system that clamps onto the actual axle? Is there anything I should be concerned with or check in more detail?

It's a pretty good small tractor the gauges should be easy to
trace down and fix. The brakes are on the axles and you need
to pull the axle housing to repair them if used correctly they
last a long time. 12 speeds is great and the shuttle will be real
handy when mo ing back and forth working.

It is probably a disc brake, just like your car. Be
sure the PTO (the shaft out the back) turns when you
push the clutch in. Two friends of mine bought
Kubota's that didn't have independent pto. One of
them was a new one. He thought all tractors made
after 1955 had independent pto.
