I renewed my CDL w/hazmat yesterday. Cost me $200

Online registration for fingerprinting. $86.38
DOT Physical $45
License Renewal $65
Hazmat Test $5

$86.38
$45.00
$65.00
$ 5.00
-------
$201.38

I forgot the State of Illinois is broke...!

But it is good for 4 years. Mine expires in 2016. I may not want the hassle by then with my age and insulin exemption.

DOT physical is only good for two years, no matter how many years are left on the license(some must have a physical yearly)

The finger printing was enough hassel and cost to make me drop the hazmat. If I ever need it I can always get it back. The stranger thing is now that I don't drive professionally my employer will pay for the physical???

That's about right

Online registration for fingerprinting. $86.50 but company reimburses that.
DOT Physical unknown cause company pays that upfront
License Renewal
Application Fee $15
License Fee $41
DMV Service Fee $3
Hazmat Test $5 This includes tanker cause I have a X endorsement
Doubles endorsement $5
Total cost to me $69.00

I needed the CDL for my last job. This time it was all on me. I don't need it but thought it would be good to have with the economy the way it is cause you never know what's gonna happen.

Never have had a requirement for finger print here in Tenn. Is that by state or something new

About right with the haz-mat.

Another money grab is the TWIC card that is required in a lot of places that have a port or channel or set on the water especially if you have already had the background check for the haz-mat you get to have another background check for the twic card plus fork over another $125.00 dollars

To get the hazmat endorsement finger prints done requires a trip 70 miles to the west or 150 miles to the east. This is where the city here is 38000 people, and a county seat. Why can't local law enforcement do the fingerprints?

I don't know if this applies to every state, but here if you have to have a CDL for your job, your employer has to pay for the renewal. The only thing that you have to pay for is the class C part.

Just gave mine up last year, after about 40 years. I had motorcycle indorsment as well. I've racked my brain but I don't think I took a test of any kind "back in the day"? Anybody from Oregon remember what they did for a CDL in early 60's?

Last time I had to renew mine it cost me around $60. Then this year I had to pay another $10 or so so waive the DOT physical since I do not want to give it up but do not drive over the road any more

jm: To get HAZMAT you have had to have a Federal back ground check since 2004-2005. Right in there.

What has changed around here is where and how you get that done. Used to be that the Dubuque Sheriff's department could do the finger printing and such. They now don't do it. You have to go to the Quad cities or Cedar Rapids.

Then the real fun was the fact that your back ground check and CDL are not in step. I got my HAZMAT and the back ground check is good for five years. I only had two years on my CDL until it needed renewed. Guess what??? I had to do the back ground check all over again.

Dunno about Oregon, but in 67/68 in MN I got my Chauffeur"s license for $2 and a written exam, for a job I had in college. Was farming a few years later and didn"t want to "waste" $2 for a license I might not need in the future. If I had, I could have grandfathered into a CDL shortly after.

I got my Minnesota Chauffeur"s license in the summer of 69. I used it for hauling sweet corn and then driving the college buses for four years. I converted it to class A CDL when the changes occurred. I really haven't needed it since 2009. It has been 3 years since my last CDL physical. The last time they charged $100 to basically just fill out the paper work since it was done at he same time as my regular yearly physical. The only thing was was additional for the CDL was the eye test. This is the year I will give it up.

I last renewed mine in '09, its valid for 8 years. I think with the deductible on the health insurance, everything including the NYS DMV fees was around $200. I don't have any restrictions, nor any endorsements, so if I went for hazmat, it would be close to $300 by now ? Places I worked years ago, I refrained from getting that endorsement, because sooner or later I'd get assigned to the tandem service trucks, when the regular guy was out or similar, end up fueling and lubricating all the equipment out on sites, one outfit had 80 pieces of equipment. Don't mind greasing what I run, but decided, let someone else have that job LOL !

No it is not new. I had a class b with tanker and hasmat for working a fertilizer plant. Was not doing it any more so 8 years ago when I turned 62 turned it in for just plain licence. Would have had to drive 80 mile to state capitol of Columbus, Oh. to get the fingerprint test. And still licences are only 4 years.

That is the trend now.Everyone wants lower taxes so that is what happens, government lowers taxes. Then they turn around and raise fees for all the renewal
items, tags, permits, license renewal, building school and property taxes.

but you are paying less taxes

I dropped the hazmat when the background check came about. Right now if they somehow come up with them, they have to explain how they they got them. They don't need stuff like that on file for anyone who's not been arrested.

I moved from Pennsylvania to Nebraska, my CDL transfer, title transfer, and 5 ton plates with registration, were about $5 less than the registration renewal alone would have been in Pennsylvania, and that plate wasn't good for the empty weight of the truck.

My taxes sure didn't drop, so I don't know what he's talking about. They're still going up every year. I just had a DOT physical last month, and it cost $78.00
