Battery Warranty

Getting the tractor ready for the possible 10-11" of snow this weekend, the battery's bad. 6 year battery, had 2 years left on warranty. Took to the local Rural King where I had bought it, They warrantied it no problem. When they dated it for future warranty, they dated it the purchase date of the bad one.Is this how they do it now? When I was working with batteries 40 years ago, it was new battery, new warranty.

Nope, I've run into the same thing. Explanation is that you bought a battery that was warranted for 6 years. If it doesn't make it, we'll give you another under warranty, to get you to the 6 years. But 6 years is all you get, unless you buy another one.

But come to think of it, under that theory, they shouldn't "adjust" the price on the second one, they should just give it to you. Otherwise, you're ending up buying a battery and a half to get your 6 years, and that wasn't what you bargained for.

Mine they pro-rate the new battery, but give me the full warranty time. That is the only thing that makes since. Sometime I have to make sure they check the old with load.

I just had to replace the batteries on my Ford F-250 Diesel, it had WAL-MART batteries and they had 4 months warranty left. They replace both of them and set up in their computer system that my two new ones only had 4 months warranty. But, what the hey, I should get 3 to 4 more years from them, that"s not bad for the original price, and for them to serve me for 7 - 8 years. No adjustment, just replaced them, now if they had been adjusted, should have new warranty,

Yes, warranty is not longer than what the original battery had!

You got what you paid for a battery with a 7 year warranty, 5 years on old battery and 2 years on the new battery, they owe you nothing more unless you paid more money.

Wow! All I asked if this was the way they did battery warranties now. I wasn't complaining. Some of you have you under wear in a knot. Thanks to those who actually answered my question

Actually that is a better deal than the old way of pro rating the warranty. With the prorating, you end up paying more based off full retail than just buying the same battery on sale.

I have heard of the same sort of warranty on water heaters, the first one is 6 years, the replacement does not come with any additional warranty.

So it sounds like a normal deal.

I prefer it to the prorated.

Assuming they didn't pro-rate the warranty, I'd say that's a very good deal. It used to be you didn't buy a battery, you rented it. If it had a five year warranty, you probably had to replace it in four years; the cost of the new battery after the warranty adjustment would be almost as much as you paid in the first place.
