96 silverado locking doors

Put a new driver side inside door latch on the other day on the 96 chevy. Had door panel and switches off to get the new latch put in, now my doors lock as soon as I turn on the key and I have to manually unlock them, because they won't unlock with the switch. Plug ins on the switches can only be plugged in one direction, so I am sure everything is plugged in correctly. The kicker is it doesn't do it every time, it didn't bother the other day, now today it did it every time I got in. Windows work properly, Anyone have this happen?, thanks for any help or information.

Did you check your owners manual? Sometimes it's a computer programed thing as to when the doors lock, like when you put it in gear, or start to move. The manual should explain how to reprogram.

I wasn"t aware that these trucks could lock the door them selves. As far as I know, the computer has no control over anything except the engine and transmission. I don"t think those trucks were even available with passlock.

Locks have full time power. Windows don"t (assuming power windows). The windows only work with the key on(forwards or backwards). If the main power supply wire for the windows was pinched with the lock wire, it could potentially lock the door. Just doesn"t seem likely though. (Pull the window fuse rather than tear the door back apart)

On my '96 Bonneville, sometimes it goes back to the default settings after I disconnect the battery for an exteded time. The radio, door locks and remote starter are usually affected. Check your owner's manual or a service manual on how to change your door lock preferences.

I had a 94 with passlock. Real pain when you opened the door to reach in and start truck to warm it up. When you shut the door it would lock cuz the key was on. A friend disabled it for me after a few too many lock out incidents.

Thanks for all the information, but today it didn't bother, I was in and out of it about 10 times, and it didn't lock when I started it. We will see what it does tomorrow.
