Came home early on the 31st to change out the motor and capacitor in my outside heat pump unit. Motor was making horrific sound and also found out the capacitor was leaking. Figured Id catch it before it went out. Long and short while doing that I figured I start the Skidloader and let it warm up to clean the dry lot before we got snow.. Started it up and went back to working on house unit. When I accidently touched a wire from the capacitor which shocked me and when I let go wire hit the unit side and sparked..Forgot to pull the breaker on the unit before I started working on it. ya stupid. Thankfully blew fuse and everything works fine..but whilst doing that skidloader ran out of fuel...diesel fuel.. $&*^! ran to the coop with two jugs for diesel and didnt have my wallet so had to make a round trip. Not to mention trying to get it started after running out..GOOD BYE 2013..LOL

I know how you feel. I worked all day on Tuesday, Went home and rested and it was my holiday to cover at work so I came back in at 10 PM and worked till 10:30 AM. Butt was dragging. On the way home got a call from my dear 84 year old mother, not feeling well. Long story short ended up in the ER at 2 PM. She has a small bowle obstruction. Got her a room at 2 AM. Sat with her till I had to go back to work this morning. Noon now and have not seen my bed since Monday night. Running on fumes. Hope 2014 gets better.

not as bad; however, got up news years day and dish receiver had hard drive failure. no repair but replacement which requires 3-5 days shipment. claim i do not like tv, but sure miss it, especially with cold temps on the way. yes, i know, i live in nw al. but still cold.

I am not an HVAC person, but our heat pump outside unit has gotten progressively noisier over the last few months, and the colder it gets the noisier gets worse. Could this be related to the motor issue you mentioned?

Thanks
Rich

Rich...Thats what mine was doing. Started in the summer this past year. Heard a rattling noise and went over to unit figuring screw came loose or something and couldnt get it to stop. Put ear to it and sounded like coming from motor. Kinda put it off till mid Dec got really cold and went outside to a horrific rattling which my family could hear in the house.. I stopped the unit and took a pencil and tried to twirl the blade and it didnt move very far. So figured I better get'r replaced. Funny thing is sound would come and go but got worse. They say if replacing motor need to replace the capacitor so opened the side up and saw it was leaking so did both.. HOLY COW.. does it run quiet now.. Unit is 13 years old..as is the house..

Also funny thing is when I was doing the replacement the old motor didnt seem so bad but stunk like burned rotton type smell..

Ours started getting noisy last year, I wrapped a bungy cord around the screen and that helped some, but the noise is getting worse. Our unit and house are 11 years old.

Where is a good source for the motor and capacitor?

Thanks
Rich

I got all the info off the motor and cap. went online but ended up calling a guy locally and got both for about 200.00..Here in nebraska I went with a company called Colin Electric..
