took the dog to vet, she was getting so much worse. as of now she has a severe kidney infection. vet says we have a so-so chance for her to get better or we will have to put her down. hoping she can recover , asking you all to cross your fingers, I know she is just a dog , but still one of GOD's creature we are to look over. just thought I'd post if anyone wondered. thank you all for your thoughts on this the other night.

Prayers are with you! Lost my 6 year old lab to lung cancer in August. It's a terrible loss to lose an animal.
About 7 weeks ago I got a 9year old lab mix from the shelter. Pretty old, but my heart melted when I saw him. He's turning out great!

She is not just a dog. She is part of your family. Just as my two dogs and cats are part of mine. Hope she pulls through ok.

Lost my best friend house dog of 13 years yesterday. I know exactly how you feel. I thought the same of my pet. He was more like a son than a pet.

I get the dreaded job of picking him up from the vet's office today and burying him. They kept him in a freezer over New Years for me.

Just a dog? No such thing. They become part of our lives and family. I have so many memories of our Lab and our kids growing up. Molly would have died defending any one of us. Just a dog?

When our Chow Tazzy was diagnosed with stomach cancer 2010, we bought another Chow pup. We had Taz cremated. That pup Sug is now full grown. Hal

We left the dogs with the vet for him to put them down. Drove directly to the animal shelter and found the current Dingo. I don't know how many dogs are buried in the yard over the years, but seems you get another and they fill in the voids.

I had to have my pup put down a few weeks ago and I am still reeling from it. Felt like someone reached into my soul and just tore my heart out. The vet always has a hard time finding a vein when the pet is older, so it turns into a harder situation. Hope yours gets better.

Keeping our fingers crossed for you and the pup. There's no such thing as "just a dog" around here, I'm sure you're house is the same...

Years back, I had a collie-shepard, Bo. Same problem. Kidneys going out. A vet did a biopsy where he injected something into his kidneys through his coat, pulled out small samples, sent them out to the lab and isolated it to a virus. Until that point, Bo wouldn't drink water, quit eating, apparently painful. The vet treated Bo, gave him I think two years to live, max. Bo lived five more years, very low protein diet. Protien kills kidneys in adult dogs, so gotta cut back. One ting I fed him as he was going through treatment was cooked hamburger, then boiled the grease off, mixed with rice. Bad thing though, even though Bo got real healthy for the better part of those five additional years, at the end of them, his kidneys just quit, and he went quick. The end was sad when it came. I never had a bad dog, he was no different.

Good luck.
