At 7:40 A.M., it"s -20 F, in the Mississippi
valley of Western Wisconsin.
We"re 10 miles North of Lacrosse, looking out the
front window, across the river to the Minnesota
hills.

-1 *F now; sunshine and thankfully no wind; up from -9 at 0700.
WKTY was still reporting -14 at 0750. The coffee in my mug is much warmer!!

Christmas a.m. I was reading -18 and noticed it dipped to -27 while driving to church.

We Wisc. onsinites are a tough bunch...maybe slightly deranged, but tough!

BIL was from Cashton- Met my sister when he was stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA, in the early '60's- they moved back there for a short time after they got married, but they were suffering from the heat in summer and cold in winter.

Sister secretly arranged with my dad, a carpenter, to set up a carpenter's apprenticeship. Then one evening when Donnie came home more dead than alive from the heat (worked in a machine shop), she casually suggested he call her dad to see about job prospects in Washington.

He retired a few years ago, as a union carpenter. They used to go back to see his family for 2 weeks every year, but visits are less frequent now- he jokes that about a week of that, every couple of years, is about as much fun as he can stand.

I went to HS in Cashton. My sister and her husband and sons run a big dairy farm out by CTH "D" and Knapp Valley Road. I left WI and the cccooolllddd a looong time ago.

The view from my place this morning....34F and sunny after a very wet night but at least the wind wasn't blowing....We have had two storms over the holidays with wind and rain, wind speeds reached 80-90 mph

"dgasper"; they've got hundreds of tires holding the white plastic over their stockpile of feed. I was next door Saturday evening at Peck's Corner with friends. Enjoyed some batter fried cheese curds and Budweiser...the other three drank that stuff called light beer, I don't understand that. Not the winds today that were forecast, thankfully. 5* and dark now with about an inch of fresh snow.
