2013 corn yield contest winner

Saw in today's Ag-section of the paper that the winner was from Charles City, Va @ 454 bu. acre.

If I remember the story right, this guy has won 3 years in a row now. Lots of corn grown in that area on 15" rows. Not sure about the record holder though.

Well $4.00 corn would work out if you could get that kind of yield. But for us regular folk it is going to be tough.

I heard him speak at a meeting last winter.

He spoon feeds his field for the corn contest.

Lots of chicken litter. 5 applications of Nitrogen through out the year along with extra P and K. Extra fungicides and insecticides as well.

It is flat black bottom ground right next to a river as well.

They also have a long growing season to use a full season hybrid.

Uh oh. Now some one is going to pencil out that THEY can produce 454 bu. acre too. Buy a bunch of machinery then go bankrupt in 3 years.
