Don't know where to put this

OT. Son bought me a Christmas present. Color is red. Came from TSC. A pair of old west button up full body long johns, neck to ankle with a button and flap in the back. Haven't figured out what that's for as yet. Maybe it will come to me sooner or later.

However, this is the perfect gift as the wood stove usually craps out early in the morning and I freeze my gebezees off getting rid of the water from the BP water pill every couple of hours or so.

How thoughtful he was.

Had a Merry Christmas.

The flap in the back is for using the outhouse that was unheated. Also did not have to take off many cloths to do your business. Just drop your pants and drop the door an go to it. LOL

Trap door long johns is what we called them. They could be red or white.

This picture shows a traffic jam in the morning. LOL

Kind of a related story.we been out of power here in Michigan since Sunday morning, they say it will not be back on till Saturday. Kids don"t know what to do.we heat with wood so that"s no problem. It was 2 degrees last night.generator running blower on wood burner , lights, sump pump, refrigerator and freezers.

Add to your list-- your computer. We talked about the power outages with our gathering today, you have our sympathy! It's a tough time of the year for the power to be off. Glad you have a woodburner! (it would also be a very tough time for the linesmen)

Son got his power restored this morning. He's east of Nashville. Tri County Coop is his supplier. I had taken him my generator Sunday, so he's been holding in there too. Good luck on getting your power back.

The guy coming out has a paper in hand and his head down in shame. He should be ashamed! Who wants to go in after he's been in long enough to read the paper!

He may have "needed" a page or two. LOL

Used to have the old Sears and Roebuck catalog in there for use and reading. The toy section always got torn out first so you could read the adds better.

Just hanging in there with string in the middle to hold it up.

Actually posting from cell phone.clable lines are down also so no internet. Everything here is covered in .25 inches of ice.and not going to melt anytime soon.snowing now adding to ice.we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Must be a 1 holer, we had a 2 holer and I have seen some 3 and 4 holers when I was a kid. Very cold in the North central Illinois winters. Mom used a chamber pot and Dad had to dump it. He said he always had a bag or 2 of lime around to spread around in the hole to keep the smell down. Seems like there were always some bees flying around, scared me as a little kid. Finally got indoor plumbing in 1959.

Linesmen have been busy around here too., Talked to one yesterday who said his power was out and he was getting everyone else back on. They shut our line off to make repairs at my BIL's. Worked out okay 'cause the turkey was done. My son heads back to Chicago this morning and they're forecasting lake affect snow. I'll be worried until he gets home. He's a good driver though.

I don't know if he was reading or not. Notice the rest of the family brought their "necessities" with them. Maybe this is part of what made our frontier's men and women so tough. Took hardship in stride.

Thanks

Only used Sears "Rearback" on a couple of occasions. Pages were too slick in my opinion, but the story has survived the years. Maybe that's what kept the business in business over the years.

Thanks,
Mark

I thought we'd have a little fun with the "flap" which isn't a flap on these and seems somewhat useless for the intended purpose.

JDSellers' picture is priceless. I don't know who thought up the idea but it does have the tinge of being staged. Grin.

On the subject of houses, the few times I had the "opportunity" it was summer and the thought of having your privates exposed to anything that may have built a nest under the seat was somewhat unnerving. We do have a lot of those down here and usually have a nasty disposition. And then there are the spider concerns which are plentiful also.

One thing that comes to mind is the problem as mentioned in northern states with temperature extremes. Hats off to our pioneers.

Enjoyed the "pun".

Story from back when sears had catalog order:

A man writes to Sears and asked them to send him some toilet paper they replied " You must order with the catalog number. You can find toilet paper on page 1178 of our big catalog." He sent back note saying that if he had their catalog he would not be needing toilet paper.

Grew up in a back-woodsy rural community where outdoor toilets were a neccessity as much as anything else on the farm. But we had to be careful in the winter time when there was a long cold spell. Ever see a stalagmite in the pit reaching the highest safe level? Better hope for an early spring. Or---run out of Sears catalog, and have to resort to corn cobs? The ones out of the hog pen were better than corn-sheller ones 'cause they had more fuzz on them.

Enjoyed reading through the different post, this brings back the memories of stories that my mom, dad, grandpa, and other relatives told me, the only time I ever used an out house was my first job at age 13, a dairy (still miss that job)
