(quoted from post at 08:47:25 12/25/13) Did anyone understand one word of that.

The first part seemed to be that he sent money in (maybe cash?) to pay for his vehicle registration and someone pocketed the money and then he got a ticket for not having the updated registration (tag sticker?). Don't know about the cell phone stuff????

In 1975, I had just gotten out of boot camp (Navy) and was headed from Orlando to San Diego. I got a ticket some place (don't remember now) in California from the very first female trooper I had ever seen. For doing 75 in a 55 on the interstate, WTH. Anyway, I sent the money in an envelope (maybe $25 back then) the first time I got paid . Well about a month later I get a call from a nice lady that wanted to know why I hadn't paid the ticket and told me the consequences of non payment. I told her that I did send it in and she asked me if I sent cash? Yep, then she told me "Honey, don't ever send cash through the mail as it will likely be stolen before it gets to us because the mail people know that it may contain cash by the address coming to us." She said to send a Postal Money Order so I did. Guess I was still pretty naive at 19 and would not have considered stealing something myself so did not think anyone else would...lol. Learned my lesson well!

While I was in the USMC, Nebraska had a policy that
as long as you were on Actice Duty, you didn't need
to renew your DL. There I was - 25 years old and
being hounded by the California Po-lice because the
photo on my DL was of a 16 year old long hair, and I
was DEFINATELY not the same. Nebraska refused to
renew it on several occasions.
I finally ended up mutilating the thing to the point
they HAD to renew it. Finally got the CHiPs off my
back....

Amen to that, Brother.

Occasionally travel to Chicago to see my daughter and her family. A couple of years ago someone stole my license sticker when I stayed overnight and parked on the street. Heard it isn't uncommon for this to happen in Chicago. Somewhat my fault because I leave one expired sticker when I apply the new one. Just real hard to remove that last sticker without damaging the plate. More recently purchased a new truck and when staying overnight now remove both side accessible tool boxes and use a clear license plate cover so they can't easily access the rear plate. Problem is this is illegal in Illinois because you are now obstructing the plate. Consequently while driving on the interstate I got pulled over. Seems like they would have a greater impact on criminal behavor if they focused on other more destructive illegal activities.

Farmerwithmutt, I understood what you were saying and I am not from America! Sorry to hear of your misfortunes, with the registration plates and your phone being stolen. You would think the phone could have been traced to whoever used it?.......Maybe I watch too much CSI and NCIS?
Hope you have a better year in 2014.

Farmer,

You aren't clear on what you sent in the mail, cash or check? If you sent cash, sorry, but that's why it is recommended to never send cash in the mail. If you sent a check, I would assume that your bank should be able to help you with a canceled check. I'm not sure why you want to take it out on the cops. Cops don't issue vehicle registrations, your state does through its department of motor vehicles, secretary of state, or whatever they call them. Taking your misfortune out on a cop for doing his job would be like yelling at your neighbor because the mailman mistakenly put your mail in his box. Your misfortune is not either of their faults.

I wish you better luck in the future, but what is done is done. How did you pay via the mail? Cash or check? Your payment may have never even made it to your state's department of motor vehicles. It may not have even made it to the postal service. It may have been stolen right out of your mailbox. The door of your mailbox may have opened and the letter blew out and down the road, currently lying in a creek. A couple of weeks ago during a windy snow on a bitterly cold day, after doing our driveway I shot down the road and did our sickly neighbor's drive, and after him the 80+ year old farmer's widow down across the road from him, and before I started, I went past her wide open mailbox and meant to close it, but it was full of mail that I grabbed and handed her at her door. A while longer and her mail might have been blowing across the fields. In any event, this might be a learning experience. Better luck in the future, and hopefully a Happier New Year for you and yours.
