Well I hard boiled a dozen eggs and deviled them. Plus cut up and tops a pan for apple crisp so 2 things out of many already done for the Christmas meal. Wednesday I'll be doing a ham , Harvard Beets. Broccoli (herbed both sweet and regular potato's. Been doing this for at least a decade now. Turkey on Thanks Giving and Ham on Christmas

Harvard beets- hadn't thought of them for years. Love beets, and fondly remember Harvard beets from my youth. Thanks for jogging the memory.

I'm beginning to believe you about being a chef. I think we should organize a get-together dinner at your house, with about a hundred YTMagers. I'd even come from Washington, but you'd have to pick me up at the airport. Whattya think?

I'd only want you to ship me some turnips if I could give you a fictitious address- I'm thinking Occupant, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington DC. Stick some cute little firecracker fuses in them, to get their attention.

Grits aren't they made from corn?? My dad always said that they feed corn to the hogs. Still remember living in TN and they served my dad grits and he asked what they where and the waitress told him he then ask what they were made from and she told him and he said shoot we feed corn to the hogs. My dad was from MN and by the way I was born in Alabama the town that was the home of the Allis G

This time of year is reindeer meatball season. Notice all the old guys in the red suits required for hunters to wear? Teasing Alert! RN

I add a twist to my Harvard beet. I use Orange juice in them. Been doing them on and off for years now. The herb broccoli is a new one I tried the other day and got 2 thumbs up from the family so they want me to do it for Christmas meal also.

Holiday meals tend to have the same stuff with us, year to year. You may have inspired me with the Harvard beets, for Christmas dinner. Something a little different, that hopefully no one likes much, so I'll have lots of leftovers.

I always try to do a couple of different things every year for Thanks giving and Christmas so as to keep the meal more interesting. Play a trick on the family a couple years ago. Did a pumpkin pie and a sweet potato pie but would not say which was which and they never guessed till I told them which was which

Sounds great old, what times diner? Lol, I have a ham curing/brining right now, ill smoke it on wensday morning!

That would be easy, Old- the better tasting one was the sweet potato.

Although I've gotta admit, Mrs. (WA) really nailed it with pumpkin this year.

we just finished making our annual fruitcake, mom's recipe from about 40 years ago. we make one every year using good quality candied fruit, raisins and pecans. yes, not soaked.

Does your deviled eggs look like these?

Well, so much for the Harvard beets. I grow the Cylindra variety, so much of the beet is out of the ground. They normally keep over the winter in the ground, just fine. Went out to get some this morning- apparently they froze up when we had a week of 17 degree nights, and they're all shot. Doh.
