Pickup tailgate liner

I bought a bedliner for my pickup and have installed the bed portion.

However, the tailgate cover is supposed to be installed by drilling several holes. I don't want to give rust a place to start.

I have heard somewhere that I can bolt on the portion around the lock mechanism, then glue or tape the rest of the cover at the corners of the tailgate.

Do any of you have experience and have actually done this successfully? I need it to stay in place going down the road 75MPH.

Honestly, unless you plan on keeping the truck for 20+ years, I wouldn"t worry about any rust.

And if you did keep it that long, had some freak rust-out problem, you could pick up a new tailgate for next to nothing from a junk yard.

I just don"t think it"s worth worrying.

I agree with the others.Also.The fenders/quarter panels will rust out long before the tail gate becomes an issue.'Clips',glue etc will come loose/fail.If you want it to stay put,'screw it'!

I took a look at those Berliners and went to the rubber mat and tailgate cover. Things don't slip on it and it only takes a second to remove for cleaning.
Best thing I ever did my buddies plastic bed liner is out in my back yard more than in the truck.

NEW tailgate at junkyard, for next to nothing?? Could you hook me up to get a couple of hundred? I'll be GLAD to pay you for your time,Thank You

You got that right.

Tailgates are big business, 'cause they're so easy to steal and so many are bent up.

I had LineX sprayed in mine. I wanted them to spray the bottom of the tailgate. Them did not think there would be enough room between the tailgate and bed. The tail gate has one of those steps with a plastic liner. It is a pain using a forklift because of that.

The LineX is very good stuff!

You now JR I am glad you said that, there are folks on here that worry about some of the dangest things. I know for a fact that guy is really worried about the best way to do a tale gate but like you said what water goes in around the screw is going to rust the tail gate before he gets rid of the truck ? I really doubt it. Have traded ever 2 years since 1969 and when liners came out started using them and can,t ever remember any rust issues.
