Last Thursday at work, I stepped off the fork truck and my left leg went numb, kinda like it went to sleep but no tingling pain. Then I felt like I was going to be sick and got dizzy for a few seconds. It was all over in a minute or so. I talked to the safety gal and she said to call DR and talk to the nurse. Nurse said she would talk to DR, probably nothing serious. I didn't say anything to SWMBO, no need to excite her. Monday, Drs. office called the house and said I need to come in soon. SWMBO wanted to know what that was about since I had my yearly checkup a week ago and everything was fine. Told her I had no idea, but I would call Dr. They wanted me in right away, made an appointment for after work. When I left work, SWMBO was waiting for me, said she would take me to Dr's. office. We went in and when they called me, SWMBO got up and came in also. BUSTED!!! While waiting for Dr., I had to tell her what happened. SWMBO NOT HAPPY!!! Anyhow, I had to go in for MRI and another test, they think I might have had a mini stroke. I called today, everything tested OK. They upped me from a baby aspirin to 325mg a day. I thank God I'm OK, but SWMBO is still not happy with me. Maybe if I get her the needle nose pliers she wants for Christmas she will forgive me. Chris

glad you're ok. I had a run in with my drill and hole saw one day and chewed up the heel of my hand pretty good. I used most of the gauze out of my first aid kit and some electrical tape to get through the day. later in the day I texted my wife and asked her if she was stopping anywhere after work and pick up some more gauze if she was. I had to explain to her that if it was really that bad it would be someone else calling her, not me.

Those are stroke symptoms! I had a stroke, left leg anfd arm went numb and I fell..took several months before my strength was all back..get checked out..high cholesterol, high blood pressure..the silent killer...I only say this out of concern,I went through it and its not pretty

Everyone needs to memorize this:FAST

F.A.S.T. Letter F Face Drooping – Does one side of the face droop or is it numb? Ask the person to smile. Is the person's smile uneven?
F.A.S.T. Letter A Arm Weakness – Is one arm weak or numb? Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
F.A.S.T. Letter S Speech Difficulty – Is speech slurred? Is the person unable to speak or hard to understand? Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence, like "The sky is blue." Is the sentence repeated correctly?
F.A.S.T. Letter T Time to call 9-1-1 – If someone shows any of these symptoms, even if the symptoms go away, call 9-1-1 and get the person to the hospital immediately. Check the time so you'll know when the first symptoms appeared.

Failure to take FAST action can easily result in brain injury.

The younger you are the better you recover. I had a stroke when I was 27. It was a long road back but a stranger would never know it happened. I told my folks at the time that I was glad it was me - I have no kids to worry about me and I was younger than them and heal better. Honestly, it's a scary deal but mine didn't hurt a bit. It was frustrating as all heck for a while but liken say, if it had to be someone in my family I'm glad it was me.

You better buy her a NICE SET of pliers, and maybe a rubber hammer. I am just as bad, but to many close call stories. Besides my Doctor is a young great looking Smart fun person. It is hard not to go in more than once a year. Tell wife I will buy her the Hammer.

I had two small strokes the 1st of November. Just lost control of my left hand for about fifteen minutes, and by the time the ambo got here, I was back to normal. They found the second minor stoke on the MRI.

Long story short, they changed a bunch of my meds, and have been looking at everything I do for the past month or so.

Heart troubles are serious- but strokes are more insidious killers.....

I see a neurologist for short term memory problems. 1st thing she did was send me for a brain scan. Yep, she said you have had numerous strokes and asked if I remembered getting dizzy or any other symptoms. Never did. She said it's not uncommon and most people close to 70 have already had some small strokes.
Hope all works out for you Chris.

Why would you not share that with her right from the start? A friend of mine had somewhat more symptoms, girlfriend suspected a small stroke, and took him in THE NEXT DAY!! Lucky he"s still around. That is nothing to mess with.

my wifeee doesnt let me go to the doctor by myself if she knows about it, thinks i will not tell her everything. shes probably right. ever since i had to go to a heart doctor. she an the kids were a little upset you might say. stepdaughter gave me just me about as much heck as wifee did. just didnt want to worry them.

BTDT I've had so many srokes I really DON'T know the actual count. I remember one of them, we (wife & I) were on our way to Florida to see the kids. Spent the night in a motel, only breakfast was a small bottle of choclate milk, started on our way only got about a mile down the road. It felt like I had to puke and poop at the same time, pulled off the road I went to the rear of our car, next thing I new I was on my back, wife and strangers standing around, All said go to hosp. but this tough guy didn't (this happend about 30 yrs. ago) I've had one major one, that put me in hosp, for 3 1/2 wks. about 12 yrs. ago. I've taken enough time!

im the same tough it out but at least your wife wants you not the insurance check .
had a neighbor did the same thing now he drags his left side around tried all sorts of therapy didnt help had to sell farm and move to town

Glad things turned out ok for now. I sure hope they didn't miss anything.

Our Doctor has Dixie and I set up to come in together every three months. When he is checking me he keeps looking at Dixie as he asks questions as I answer. Same when he checks her he keeps looking at me when she is talking.

Don't know what the "tradition" is regarding your handle, but ignorance appears to be a part of it. Getting blood thinners in a hurry is how you combat a stroke, not "standing up" to someone who is trying to help. Otherwise, you can end up with permanent damage. But I guess that's better than losing your status as ruler of the roost.

Had one in 2010. I was driving and suddenly felt like I was on big time drunk. Got stopped and knew where I was but couldn't move at all. After 30 minutes or so got where I could turn the truck around and slowly made it home. Double vision was bad. Neighbor took me to ER and by then was mostly over. Had one about mid morning for 3 weeks every day. Blood pressure would spike and then would be gone. Quit having them and haven't had any sign of them since. I had had the mumbness in left side of my face and left arm almost daily for 2 yrs before I had the tia. Started feeling the numbness again very lightly in the last week or so, have started the aspirin and niacin again and hopefully can get it fixed before I have another.

I was walking by my truck one day. Woke up three hours later in a hospital. Doctor told me it was my third heart attack. Never even knew about the first two.

So now I take it real easy and do anything the Doc says.

only a couple heart attacks here that i know of and symptoms nothing like always hear about. was out puttering around yard with tractor, luckly wasn't on it. zero pain in arm however felt like a very large powerful person grabbed sternum picked me up and from time to time gave a shake having never sat me done. got sick to stomach and lite headed. had trouble opening door to ask SWMBO to call 911. had enough sense to shut fuel and ignition off at least :)
