Agent Orange Screening

Don"t know what is involved but if you have it you get all kinda extras alive or when you pass.
Some get the extras and don"t show any signs of sickness from it and others it really has them goofed up.

My Father inlaw was exposed to agent orange, about 7 yrs ago found out he had a rare cancer linked to agent orange, the goverment started sendind him a small check, sad to say he passed away just over 2 yrs ago. So get checked !

FYI agent orange was a combo of 245T and 24D herbicides. I worked at a chemical plant for 32yr that manufactured 24D herbicide. We were tested regular for nerve damage.

The "T" was the culprit in causing so many cancers, because it was polluted with Dioxin during the manufacturing process. Both "T" and "D" are not really bad on their own. And "D" is still in widespread use as a broadleaf herbicide. What many folks don"t know is that "T" was used for forestry site-prep for years but was removed from registry about 30 years ago. So I reckon forestry workers in this country were exposed also.

I'm a Vietnam vet,I got a letter from my local va asking if I wanted a screening. Not a big deal, pretty much a good physical and an interview with a dr. If you have any health problems relating to agent orange they will find it. You didn't have to get sprayed just being there and breathing the dust could cause problems, because they sprayed millions of gallons of it in each province.

I have cancer from Agent Orange. Found by a civilian doctor. VA says there is nothing wrong with me. Said I couldn't have been exposed to it since I was in the gulf. But they can't explain why I have the same problems. That the guys in country have.

I understand some carrier based Naval personnel were exposed as it came aboard the ship on the airplanes, some were used to spray it (so it must of been on the carrier to be loaded) other AC got contaminated while operating in the area of active spraying and flight deck personnel got exposed while recovering the aircraft.

Most vets exposed to agent orange think primarily in terms of cancer, but it produced other health risks as well. My lady friend's late husband, who was in Viet Nam with the Air Force, developed Parkinson's a few years before he died in 2011. They utilized the services of a special advocate who helped them get VA disability benefits. As his widow, she still receives a substantial check every month.

(quoted from post at 14:10:31 12/19/13) From what I understand you if you were in country anytime from 1962-1974 you are elgible.
DH, Being in country makes you eligible for the test only. it doesn't guarantee you will receive an award. From what I've seen, one has to being experiencing one of the symptoms of the various diseases that exposure to AO causes. I was tested about 20 years ago, at that time a fat biopsy was the standard test. I don't know what methods are used by the VA today because I quit going to the VA due to the treatment I received there. I do know this, if you die from an AO related disease, your wife is eligible to receive 1/2 of what the VA awards initially.

I was on the USS SARATOGA CVA60. Our shop was in Hanger bay 3. Were the trash planes were parked for repair. They all ways had an odd smell to them. Reminded me of cotton spray from the farm.

Have read that several C-123s that were restored to cargo version after spray duty were withdrawn from ANG/Reserve service years later due to crew complaints about smells, nausea, diziness, etc. There were also a few that were on static display with "walkthrough" capability for the public that were quietly removed and destroyed.
