In the fullness of time

My mother used to say that to me when I'd ask too often when were we going to the fair or when I could have a box of .22 shells.
I learned if she said that she was tired of being bugged about it and it was best to leave it alone.
When I was older and had read Galatians a few times I began to understand it meant when the time was right.
And not before.
Many times I asked God for a wife.
I knew other good women but never the right one.
I figured maybe the time would never be right so at last I quit asking.
I met this woman 25 years ago.
She was the manager at an apartment company where I did maintenance for a couple of years.
We got along great. But she was married.
Kept in touch a little over the years.
I did some remodeling for her and her husband and we had some peripheral friends.
I hadn't heard from her much in the last few years till last winter she called and asked if I could fix her slow draining bathtub.
That's when I learned that her husband had died.
I charged her breakfast for the job.
And then we started dating.
Not long after, I asked her if or when she could marry again maybe she would consider someone like me.
She just smiled. But the mist in her eyes told me what I wanted to hear.
10 whirlwind months of meeting her people and she mine.
Holding hands and picnics and weekends.
Laughter. Selling my best tractor to buy her a ring.
The joy of her consoling proximity.
She's 57 and I'm 60.
The goofy, tongue tied, hesitant ways a pretty girl can make a guy act are still there as if you were 20.
Yesterday we had a simple ceremony in front of a judge, three of her friends and three of mine.
And we made our vows.
My first time.
I waited a long time for this.
Wondered if it had all passed me by.
I could go on.
But it's a tractor board after all.
I've finally learned what my mother meant by 'in the fullness of time'.
And something too about a fullness of heart.

Jerry

Hi Gerry and NEW WIFE, very touching and nice romance story. I asked God for the prettiest girl I had ever seen that was 57 years ago last October. Now we are getting old, few aches and pains. Continue to alway's be involved in many community and Church projects together. Life is great. Have a nice Holiday Season. Cheers, Murray

Congratulations to both of you and hope y'all have many happy years together.

well i guess you got your Christmas present early this year congratulations and what a wonderful story with some great meaning best wishes now you might have to get rid of one more tractor to take that honey moon somewhere warm hopefully brrrr

Congratulations to you and your new bride!

Wow - made me cry. I think the best wedding or anniversary gift you could EVER give her... are the words you just wrote.

Good deal - you look like a happy couple. Congrats!

Been dating mine since fall of '67. Been married for 43. Don't know if I'd have the courage to go lookin' if she wasn't around anymore.

Congrat's. Looks like you got a keeper. A great story and I definitely hope for the best for you both.

Jerry,
This is a tractor websight. You should be ashamed for posting this on here.....and making this 61 year old former fighter pilot sit and cry like a 6 year old school girl. The picture says it all. You both are beaming. It is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy...in the fulness of time. Thanks for sharing...Merry Christmas

MAN - WHAT A STORY!!!

Congratulations! I hope you have many happy years together!

Wow! That's a great story, and beautifully written! I've got a feeling it's going to have a happy ending, too. I also at age 72, after two failed marriages, have at last found "the one"; she's 69 and a widow. Life looks good again. And you're right---even at 72 you feel like a teenager again.

You made it a tractor story by selling a tractor to buy her a ring. Few things are worth giving up a tractor for but you have found one of those high value reasons to do so. I hope you both have many years of happiness.

Mark

Jerry,
That was a very touching story. My hat goes off to you and the misses. Wishing the both of you a very happy and wonderful life together!

Congrates on having the patience to 'wait for the right ONE' for all these yrs.
Only the best for you both.
Norm

P.S. I think all these responses are better than any like button any day

The very best wishes to you both. Great story. You left it in his hands and he made sure you received what was needed. God Bless.

Very pretty lady there.
Enjoy your time together.
I have been married for almost 20 years now. Time flys by.
Best short advice I can offer.......

Happy Wife = Happy life

If your wife is in misery, you will be too, cause she will tell you all the time.

Does she have kids ?

Not to be too much of a jerk here....But....What did her first husband die of?
I am just wondering.

Congratulations
I hope that the two of you have many happy years together. After a very long and stressful day your post brought a smile to my face and the thankfulness for the beautiful wife that I have had the honor of being married to for over 25 years

Gary

Jerry that is one beautiful story!
With a silver tongue like that, I'm surprised you weren't married
before, but then, maybe you had to wait for just the right one!
Congrats to you and the new Mrs. Ultra!

Congratulations to you both, may the Good Lord give you many happy years together. Chris

Congratulations! Sometimes we don't understand the will of The Creator. But His will is perfect, and ours isn't.

I don't normally read the tractor forum but my husband assured me this was worth the read. He was right! What a beautiful story. It is never too late. God's plan is pretty mysterious, lucky for all or us. Much happiness to you both.

I got misty eyed when I read you sold your best tractor to buy her a ring. Dang, you was serious!

Happy for both of you - congratulations. God is indeed great; it may take him a while to answer your prayers, but when He does He usually gets it right!

Did you make sure the tractor went to a good home?

To a wonderful new beginning for you both!

My dad died of heart issues. He was a wonderful man and Jerry met him while he redid their bathroom. As long as he knew and liked my dad than I'm ready to give mine (and my 2 siblings) our blessings. We still consider Ruth our stepmom, even though she went on to marry again after dad died, and had to suffer the pain of losing her second husband as well. So Jerry better stick around because he has at least 3 pseudo kids and 3 pseudo grand kids. Our family can't wait to meet him.

Jerry has the respect of most of the regulars on this forum as a true gentleman, so I would say that your prospects are good.

Congratulations, Jerry! I'm so happy for you! She looks like a keeper. Also you're better looking than you sound on the phone! ;)
