The volvo dealer has been lying to me for 3 days about working on my truck. When I finally got them to own up tonight they admitted that they don't even have it in the shop yet. I'll need a different shop in the morning so if you have any ideas I would appreciate all the help I can get.

Isn"t there one right north of the Flying J or am I mistaking. I"ve never used them but I think I remember seeing one there when I used to drive through there.

You didn't say which Volvo dealer your at. Theres M&K Quality Sales on the northwest side of Indy and Andy Mohr on the south side.

Couldn't tell if the other one is better or not .The 38 years I drove the company had shops in the areas we run and our company would call them. If it couldn't fixed by them the company sent out a wrecker from our terminal with another tractor and we switched them out. There were times where you would set for 4 hours for them to come to you. A lot of time after switching tractor it was to late to do any delivering so they would bring us home.

You might call Young and Sons Diesel on the south side by the Colts Stadium and see if they can recommend a good shop. They are mainly a rebuild facility but they also know the shops around the area.

Jerry or Jake.

Jon that is a real bummer. All you need is some heat for a while to thaw everything out.

What did your truck do when it froze up??? No air pressure or some valve froze???

I have had terrible luck at full line dealers. Usually get better service at independent shops.

It won't put any air in the tanks. The dryer started acting up a few days back by constantly dumping air. It would work a while then start blowing gain. Then when I stopped tues and shut off the truck for a few minutes it wouldn't build any air. It still dumps out the dryer, but nothing gets to the tanks. If the pump up the tanks everything works properly til the air is gone.

Jon If you have any tools with you at all I would try replacing the air governor on the compressor. It will have two bolts holding it one and 2-3 air lines going to it. The governor just holds the valves open when the compressor gets up to pressure an sends air to make the re-dryer dump.

The governor is only maybe $25-35 dollars. I always carried one with me as they act up every now and then.

Email me your Phone number and I can walk you throught it.

Here are some pictures. One is a diagram of the system and the other is of the valve itself.

Air governor came to my mind too, like JD said. Easy to replace if it's accessible, and it should be. The air governor and the air dryer work together. Maybe it's not the problem but it's worth a try. jim

All Volvo dealers must be the same. The dealer my company uses in Des Moines is very slow also. Took over a week to install a new shift solenoid on my tractor due to a factory recall.

Can't help on a shop in Indy, but for what it is worth, something to consider trying.
Back in the early days we carried a can or 2 of "Air Dri", the stuff used in alcohol injectors, & a squirt bottle. When someone forgot to fill the jar on alcohol injestor and an air valve would start to hiss from frost we removed the hose from air cleaner to compressor. With engine idling, spray a mist of the air dri into hose, let it work through the system. It will find the frosted valve & clean it out.
Do not pour the air dri in, it will load up & destroy the compressor, just spray a mist. Usually needed about half a quart to get going again.
p.s. I'm located about 10 miles from your home, on the other lake. The temp bottomed out at + 12° , that's ABOVE zero, at 0340.

If it is your air drier valve not sealing there is a bypass that can be put on .TRUCK STOPS HAVE THEM.I had to have TA do that on our rv. Thee valve i could have taken apart myself but i didnt have snap ring remover along.Total cost was 82 dollars.I will reinsstall origional when i get home as only thing wrong was dirt of somesort became wedged in it.

Hard being an independent truck owner operator. Maybe look into a contract maintenance agreement with like Penske on the newer trucks, they would get you in faster, have a great sos road service dept across the country and have latest tools to repair or have rental if needed.
You could try the governor they get stuck like jd seller said The governor tells the dyer went to exhaust the moisture. If that don't work it Usually is dirt gets in the dryer valve or the descant is full of water. We bypassed them so they could get home or back to the shop for repair by removing the large air lines going to the dryer and putting a fitting in there. Some trucks you need to take small line from governor loose or pressure will build up Back in the 80's some dryers had pipe threaded bottom port you could just put a plug in, Nice idea wish they still had that. Good luck with it.

I know your frustration , Back many moons ago when i owned my truck i had a couple break downs on the road . Not fun at all. One in Inddy it was not a major one just a head light switch at 11:30 at night . Some local helped me find the I H dealer out on the west side by the airport and i was able to make it just before they closed the doors . Told the parts guy what i needed and he walked back got the switch handed it to me and said that the cash draw was locked up for the night and the next time thru to stop by and pay him then. Swapped out the switch in there parking lot and was gone in twenty min. Next major break down was when trying to avoid the first major DOT inspection ever held and my solution may not have been the best as it cost me a clutch as the back road i chose turned onto a two track of sand and mud , hey it looked good on the map. But it took everything that truck had to get thru it , power divider locked in third gear flat on the floor for around five miles till i found the state line and pavement again. and about a 150 miles down the road the clutch came apart . And the dragon wagon had to come and get me . When i called my dealer to come and drag me home the first word out of his mouth was are you LOADED ?? yep i sure am . When i called my one buddy had stopped at the dealer ship to get filters and made the mistake of stopping with just his tractor and while he was at the parts counter old Wild Bill hooded to his tractor and sorta stole it and brought it out so we could drag my trailer home . His truck was a 1978 Eagle 4300 400 big cam 13 speed 4.33 gears where mine was a 77 4300 350 SMALL CAM 13 speed and 4.33 gears . Lets just say i was not impressed with his 400 as for some reason it did NOT like the load on my trailer . And Gene was always braggen how well his ran . Wild Bill got it home and backed into the shop as they had already cleared a spot for it and by the time i got there with my trailer and dropped it out inft. of the dealership on the street as that was the only place i could drop it with out it sinking to China the transmission was already out and the new clutch was going in . Three hours later i was back running .
