What's up with RFD TV?

Have horse people taken over RFD TV? All that has been on
for several days is some Cowboy Fanfest drivel. What
happened to the tractor (and all the other varied and
interesting stuff) shows?

I'm loosing my patients with it too. Tempted to shoot off an email and tell them I hope they don't do it again next year. Apparently this stuff is going to take up all of their time through the 15th. They said all the regular progaming is being broadcast on Family Net,whatever that is. My question is,why not put THIS crap on Family Net. They've been running commercials saying that maybe this is the time to switch to Dish or whatever it is that offers Family Net,but I'm not falling for it myself.
Maybe if enough of us email them and complain,it won't happen again.

I've even lost interest in the Mollie B. Polka show. Some of the bands are so lame, you wonder how she can keep a straight face when she introduces them.

But, where I grew up all you needed for a polka band was an accordion, tuba, and a set of drums.

I like the tractor and crop production shows. I haven't seen much of this since I subscribed in January. I'd like to see the news but it is not on when I can watch. I never happened to see a news show that would start at 8 am. There is nothing of substance after 6pm. with the exception of ag phd on Tuesday nights. I'm disappointed to say the least.

Dish has RFD on channel 231. Looks like RFD has moved all the good shows to the higher upgrade channel 232. Not upgrading, looks like I'll be doing without.

Just forward this thread. They might see that more than one doessent like the programing.
add me to the list, joe

Tractor stuff is fun, but horse stuff pays the bills. They have as much variety as they can afford, but bottom line is the horse people are the ones that spend money with the sponsors..

Dave, As Lazy WP said, The NFR is going on, the First 10 days of December, always. Because the 1st of Dec was on Sat. The Series started on the 4th this Year. Tonight was the Half-way mark.
I could tell you about some of the Highlight so far, But I believe if I did it would Fall on Deaf Ears and a very narrow, pin-headed individuals not just you but others as well.
It is the Series of our Sport! No Subs, NO overpaid whiny, Candya$$-ball players here, 10 nights, 10 go-rounds,,,, or 10 full rodeos in 10 nights, only 24 hrs to prepare for the next Go. Injured or not, Show-up, Man-up, Cowboy-up! No Chick-ifycation of the American male! Get to see some truly great livestock, the Bulls, the Bucking, the Roping, the Barrel horses.
Fan-Fest is on RFD,(231-Dish), the NFR is on GAC, (165-Dish) 9pm-1200pm CST
So the Drivel you talk about is interesting to a lot of us.
It is also evident you have NEVER Sat a Bucking Horse, Teamed roped cattle, or any timed event in an Arena.
My observation of your comments.

John A.

I recon,I have Roped more cattle that you have ever looked at! jas

I used to watch it quite a bit and the Family Channel too. Now they both show the same thing. I don't think RFD is going to last. I like horses, draft horses in particular, but I want to see farm related stuff.

John, thanks so much for your mature, thoughtful and non vitriolic response. I was just wondering why an interesting and varied program format had become a single interest show. 10 days of anything is too much (well, almost anything).

I have been to rodeos and declined opportunities to try the events. I agree that many sports (including rodeo) have vastly overpaid participants and the commercialization has ruined many forms of entertainment. If you want 10 continuous days of rodeo than go there and enjoy yourself.

I also do not need rodeo or any other sport to make me feel confident in my manhood. I respect someone being good and working hard to achieve in any area of their life. Being disrespectful accomplishes little except an insight to ones true self. Diversity is one of the things that makes our nation great.

I would like to know what NFR means.

Hope you enjoy the coverage of your interest.

I quit watching RFD about 7 years ago. Tractor shows were never on when I could watch them. Don't have anything more than bunny ears and a digital convertor box now.

NFR = National Finals Rodeo.

Hesston equipment used to put out a new NFR belt buckle every year, and they became rather collectible...at least back in the '70's and '80's.

I'm just surprised that you've never heard of the NFR. [Must not have owned any Hesston equipment, or visited a Hesston dealer, back in the day.] Bob Eubanks, formerly of "The Newlywed Game" [Saturday nights on ABC] back in the '60's, used to be the main announcer for NFR broadcasts. Not sure if he still does that or not.

Dave, The National Finals Rodeo, AKA... The NFR, The Finals
Since the NFR was moved to Las Vegas from OKC in the mid 80s all timed events have gotten faster in time frame before we only dreamed of. Team Roping, Tie down calf roping, Barrels, Bull Dogging are in scary fast time frame
Set you DVR tonight 9pm to 12pm tomorrow watch and see some truly great Athletes compete. Human, Equine, Bovine. You do need the DVR not to have to set through the Commercials! Hope this helps!

I used to watch speed channel and it was replaced with more stick and ball type sports as if you couldn't get enough of that on 10 espn channels and other channels like fox sports channels.

I'm with you, DaveK; great response. I usta go to rodeos when I'se a kid, but quit going about the time I got old enough to vote. I've sat on bucking horses, roped cattle, castrated a few thousand calves, pulled a few dozen (could be a few hundred) calves, given more shots than I can count, etc, etc. Never found anything particularly 'sporting' about it, but it's none of my business how others choose to live. I wonder how some of these manly men would do at a REAL sport like lawn bowling or my personal favorite.........tiddlywinks. I probably watch about 5 minutes of rodeo per year........while channel surfing; I always pull for the bulls and horses........(feel the same way about bull fighting).

What is your perceived connection between RFD and NPR?? RFD is commercial-funded and NPR is viewer funded. I see no connection.

Last rodeo I watched, the bull riders looked like they stole a catchers uniform with all the face masks and pads they had on. More advertising on them than a NASCAR car.

RFD has gone down the same path that several other formerly interesting channels have. Namely History Channel, Discovery Channel, Nat. Geo Channel... what is "Historical" about ancient UFO's or scientific about "Bigfoot" or of Geographic interest about folks hording food and dozens of firearms for when their neighbor comes after them???? If these channels returned to their "roots" upon which they were founded, I think their viewers would increase. But then that is just my opinion.

I like um RFD, without it there vould be no HeeHaw or the wit and wisdom of Nadine on Larry's Kuntry Dinner.
Molie B has more tallent in her little finger than most do in their whole body. How many of you can play the trumpit and the key board at the same time?

I like um Pawn Stars on history channel just to see vat Austin Russel is going to do next.

Umm how many of us want to play the trumpet and keyboard at the same time?

Hesston NFR belt buckles

Thanks for the link to the belt buckles. My dad had Hesston hay equipment and bought 3 of those buckles each year. Don't have the '74 buckle but have them from '75 all up threw '88 or '89. Plus some youth buckles too.
We always watched the NFR.
