As many times as they give you reason to cuss, there
are occasional times they give you reason to
smile...

I was about Eight and my Mother called me over to the coral and said ,"Watch this cow have a calf." I started asking questions and that was my Birds and Bees lecture. Surely are worse ways to present that topic . I still remember it vividly over 40 years later.

Heck of a time of year for that.
At the U.P. State Fair though, they have that "Miracle of Life" tent where they bring in cows one right after another and you can sit in the bleachers and watch cows drop calves all day long. They had some hogs over on the other side of the tent dropping litters too.

Ya got lucky this time. I just got back in the house from checking them, still in the same spot so I gave her a "talkin too" and we marched right on down to the barn and don't you know, that calf walked right into the stable with the others....never ever seen that happen before. Hope it stays in there tonight, while the freezing rain comes in. Usually my cows don't take well to being penned up so I'll check them one more time tonight.

When I was about eight, I used to ride often with my G-dad, who was a vet. We were out preg checking some AI cows for a local farmer, and after returning home, Mom asked me what I'd been doing with G-dad all day. When I explained it in the eyes of an eight year old, I thought she was gonna have a cow......

did you ever notice beef cows do a shimmy
when they drop a calf ?dairy dont also calves
are wedge shaped so calves come out easier
and contractions are like cpr? love spring and
babies

Most of mine are or have black in them and calve at night.

On breeding, I have had cows for over 30 years and most of the
time they were black or mostly. Only once in that time did I see a
bull mount a cow during the day. Must be a privacy thing. Grin.

Found one of those little things in the corral this morning when I went to feed. Was supposed to have been born this spring with the rest.
