Tractor Suggestions

I'm looking to replace my John Deere 40 and looking for suggestions. The 40 has been able to do all of the things I require ie; plowing snow with back blade, mowing trails with 5' mower, and pulling trees out of the woods. Only thing I didn't like was the narrow front end. Would like a tractor that has comparable rear tires, 10-24, so I can use the tire chains that I have. Any suggestions?

Look for a 1020, or 2020, or 2030 series. Bit
bigger than the 40, but you'll never look back...

Put a wide front on it! You know it is good, you say it does what is needed, and that is the only issue. You will find it is less handy with a wide front, and takes more space inside, as well as turns wider, and hits more trees. Jim

Like donjr says,a 1020-2020 Deere is a nice tractor. Hard to beat an Oliver Super 55 or 550 though.

A Deere 40 with narrow front should have 10-34 tires, not 10-24 as those would be on a 40S for standard with a wide front or a 40U for utility also with a wide front. 10-34 would now be 11.2-34 and 10-24 would now be 11.2-24 so wondering actually what you have now, Narrow front would say a 40T that would have came with 34" rubber.

You should have no trouble swapping that narrow front for a wide one. Narrow appear to be more in demand.

I have sold several 40/50H.P. compact JD/IH/Ford MFDs mostly hydros and the people say they will do more for their size than a similar older style larger tractor. They usually run about $18K w/loader but are very nice.
