tractor battery

Well We use the left overs from my semi. Dad also will by used ones from the local oil distributor. They are a group 31 with the stud top connection. Much less corrosion and maintenance. The battery will be shot before you will need to clean the cables.

I have a JD strongbox in our 4600, about 10 years old, still doing well. It was given to us as warranty when the tractor was 2 years old, the original was gassing and corroding everything around it. The strongbox has a vent tube on it to prevent that. I don't know what a replacement will cost but I hope to buy another strongbox.

A 520 takes to batteries to be correct.I use napa or batteries from menards.Lately menards is cheaper, but harder to get warranty on there.I don't have much luck with john deere batteries.

A couple of years ago My friends battery gave up in his 6000 ford.
It was very large and not cheap. I gave him a 900 CCA Wally World battery from a Lincoln Town car my wife had wrecked.

We fixed wood and such around it to hold it in place. Worked just a well as his large battery did and he has used it for 2 years or so. It was at least 2 years old when I gave it to him.

I like the 31 semi batteries for the reason mentioned and 925 cca capacity. Last one I bought was bought from the truck dealer was 10 years ago for just under $60. Last week I went to TSC and bought a 31 for $104. If it lasts as long as it's predecessor, also from TSC will be happy. Several tractors, several battery requirements. Why didn't I go back to the truck dealer? Can't get there.

You wouldn't believe the US 75 upgrades going on between Dallas and probably Tulsa. No doubt it is going over the river and oil has to be the reason. Just like all the pipelines they are installing N-S through here. Half a dozen within 5 miles of my house and there are 2 on the back of my property already from years ago.

Nat gas and oil. Yahoo! Energy independence. Don't have to kiss any a$$ of countries who hate us. Notice how they have been real quiet lately......remember 1975 and the embargo and the lines at the gas station and the limited availability......I do.

NAPA battery are as good as there is.Interstate has also given good service....Just buy a good quality battery.

I bought some Deep Cycle battery for my camper trailer from an auto parts store. Later saw the very same battery (brand/model) at Murdochs for half the cost. If you have different stores in the area SHOPPE around.

I use Walmart batteries and I've gotten 10- to 12 years before failure. I use the batteries with the 3 year free replacement. Even have one in my garden tractor I replaced last year that was in use 10 years. It never failed I still have the old battery. Hal

the most important thing is to get one rated for ag or equipment as they have better support for the plates to resist vibration damage.

NOT DEERE. Up till about 5 years ago they were good but any I have bought since I have been getting about a year before they go bad. Sometimes I catch it before the warranty goes off and local deere dealer doesn't balk but I am sick and tired of replacing batteries every year.

If it is a vehicle I depend on it gets a new Interstate now. Just got one from the local "Farm" store for a collector tractor today. I am not worried about Interstate and time will tell on the "farm" store (not real confident here).

Not saying I won't ever use Deere again but they need to go back the the old specs they had Exide make them to over 5 years ago.

Oh BTW when I had to put new ones in my Semi last spring for the third time in three years Interstate was about 2/3's the price of Deere.

Sorry for the Rant but you asked. If you need it to run without problems I would vote for Interstate.

I know they are super expensive, but I put Optmia batteries in everything. I have one in a 50 that has been there for over 10 years...and it started Saturday after setting all Summer.
Heat, cold or vibaration does not affect them.
Just my 2 cents.

I've heard from many sources that the Optima batteries are overpriced junk. At the very best, no better than regular batteries as far as capacity and reliability.

I've also heard from many sources that the more expensive "gold" or "platinum" batteries are the EXACT SAME batteries as the cheap ones. You are paying for the longer warranty, which is worthless after the first six months or a year anyway because it's "prorated."
