we have rebuilt the motor and had to change the gear on the oil pump from a 15 tooth to a 20 tooth will this affect the injection pump, we cannot get the tractor to run.

of course it will change everything....from where I am sitting, the pump will only rotate only a fraction of what it should....15/20 or 75%

You have to have matching gears for both oil pump & camshaft. You need too read the part number descriptions & footnotes.

R30906 GEAR 1 - 039499 (C) (NLA) (15 TOOTH) (SUB FOR R26164) (SUB AR30012)
R32428 GEAR 1 039500 - (C) (20 TOOTH) (USE WITH AR31685 AND AR49145)

Is the injection pump drive tang slot on top of oil pump gear in the correct location with the camshaft in it's correct location also? Have seen in the past the oil pump installed 1/2 turn off. Then corrected by installing the pump shaft 1/2 turn off also inside the injection pump. Not right, but it worked. Guess they didn't want to drop the pan. I always check the pump shaft dot to see if it lines up with the rotor dot anymore when I work on 3 or 4000 series pumps. If they don't line up then I know the oil pump is in wrong, and shaft was turned to get it running.

TxJim has it correct. You have to change the gears in pairs. You need to get the correct 15 tooth gear on the oil pump or pull the cam and change BOTH gears. Just buy the 15 tooth gear you had would work too if the cam gear is OK.

I do not see how you could have gotten the oil pump back in the block with the old 15 tooth drive gear still on the cam. I am wondering if you damaged the drive gear on the cam by forcing the 20 tooth gear into the cam gear.

Also you have to time the oil pump drive gear to the cam. IF you did not then you will need to drop the pan and do so. There is not enough rotation to time the injection pump if you have the oil pump out of time.

You have to have the engine on TDC and then have the oil pump drive Arrow pointing correctly when installed. I will have to look in my manual to see which way the arrow is to point. One of the other guys may remember.

Not to be a smart butt, but did you time the pump at 14 degrees on the flywheel, had a guy that timed at TDC and had problems, 4010 @ 14 and 4020 @ TDC. chris

14° BTDC is for the original pump. If it has been upgraded to a pump with advance you need to use the 4020 specs.

The first 3010 engine I helped Dad work on 30 years ago,we put a cam in and did not know about two different cam gears and ruined a cam.The things you learn the hard way you never forget. But back then there was not a Yesterdays Tractor website to go to for help.LOL
